@sicky

It' has a dual core free-scale CPU at 1.2 GHz. The SAM460ex runs at 1.15 GHz I believe. I don't see it being much faster until the Amiga OS support dual CPUs. The HDMI output is nice, though I don't think it supports 3D acceleration, so an add-on PCI-e Graphics card would be needed.

Other than this I have no clue...

@sicky

as someone who used to own a Sam 460 and played around with an A1222, the A1222 is more powerful than the Sam.

However it is rather telling just how many former Sam owners I know have upgraded to an X5000. Fancy joining us?

@Spectre660

So the Tabor is around the same ballpark as a SAM460 which in turn isn't any faster than a Pegasos2 (give or take depending on which benchmark is used).

Tabor will be priced not that different than the Pegasos2 which means no (or only very little) progress has been made in bang/buck for the past 13 years

I'd be happy with a recreated A1200 with optional PowerPC accelerator board with the ability to run AOS4.

Bang for the buck shouldn't even be a consideration when buying AmigaOS 4 hardware (or any Amiga-related hardware). It's very specific niche hardware for a small audience. My €150 Atom 1.6 GHz Quad-core HTPC system is probably faster than the Tabor. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if my €30 RPi3 beats it in some tasks

However, taking inflation into account I think it's better value than the Pegasos 2 - Was it €400 in today's money with a 1 GHz CPU? Same with the SAM460 - back when I was trying to buy them they were closer to €700 and out of stock everywhere.

I don't think the Tabor is intended as an upgrade path for SAM460 owners but rather as a refresh of the low-end using parts and components that are actually available (SAM460 and Pegasos can no longer be bought). The upgrade path is the X5000....

I am very happy with my Sam460. The X5000 is very expensive, though tempting. Like you mentioned, the 1222 is not of a significant upgrade over the 460 for me to even consider it.

Yeah, I don't see SAM460 owners selling their systems for an A1222.

Heck, I'm having a hard time finding anyone selling a SAM460 period.

What has the RPI3 to do with the initial question ? Still angry against A-Eon and you'll come to troll in every topic speaking of one of their products ?

As an owner of Sam460 , A1222 and X5000:

A1222 running an development OS4 version feels ilke a Sam460 running finished OS4.
A1222 must have room for improvement since it is in development.

X5000 is the best with its OS4 performance.

@K-L

RPI3 is relevant for a few reasons.
It's an "alternative" computer platform like the AmigaOne (ARM rather than PPC), for those who want to try something other than Wintel.
Performance is probably similar to low-end PPC hardware (it has a quad-core running at 1.2 GHz)
You can run regular ARM Linux, but also alternatives like Haiku, RISC OS etc.
You can run AROS hosted
You can use it as a dedicated Amiga emulator box booting directly into AmigaOS 3.1/3.9

@Beans

I would sell my old Sam460cr/Amigaone 500 system problem is I have had to use the Radeon HD 7750 graphics card from my old machine in my X5000 set up along with the SSD drive I had, the sil3512 Sata controller and Envy 24HT sound card and top it all off I am probably now going to have to use the Radeon 5450 that originally came with my Sam460cr/Amigaone 500 set up as a 2nd graphics card for Linux.

Which leaves the motherboard and case.... Potential resale value anyone??

Here is the initial question :

Quote:
How powerful will th Amiga A1222 be, will it be more powerful than my SAM460?

So, I repeat, what has the RPI3 to do with the initial question ?

Please don't repeat it, just drop it. We don't need distractions.

The A1222 was designed as and is marketed as an entry-level system. I expected it to be at about the level of a Sam 440, but it is more like a Sam 460. It's a great little computer and runs really well for its size and cost.

As other developers said some time ago, "Don't worry about the SPE FPU, it's sorted."

@K-L

the reason is the comparisons with an machine not x86/64 architecture now in production than prize about 1/12 of the tabor (included wifi,bluethoot,ram) and is more powerful compared it in mips. on pi3 if i render with blender the time in rendering is the same of 5020 in blender bench.
Pi3 run aros, linux and exagear and really really well classic. On mine i put an ssd thru usb and is really fast and nice. sed it dont have a pcie... by the way if the pi have this performances how will be this one ? yummy

@tlosm: Yes, the RPi is a interestig device, but I don´t see the point, as we talking about an AOS4-system here.
