@E.Coppersmith

Even if basic functionality would be enough for you there is still the problem that import and export of data (in a modern environment) is not possible because all the old software is 20 years and older. So as I wrote as long as you use it for hobby and fun all is ok, if you want to use it serious it will end in disappointment very propably. Also drivers for modern devices like up-to-date printers are not available. All people who took the hobby too seriously and expected it to be used on same level as modern platforms ended in tears. We all are here for nostalgy or simply fun and use it as a hobby.

@cha05e90

Every time I'm entering the public license code to Cycas and click Ok it quits. How did you get it working ? Version 1.78 from AmiNet.

Well when ever the tabor is released to the public, you should have cheap-ish hardware..

@wawa

Namely looking at the OS itself ($28.00 is amazing) and most of the software I've found thus far has been ether freeware or around the same price. The machine is a bit pricey, but if it's a better system over all, that will do what I want it to with minimal headaches, I'm willing to pay more for something like that.

Also, the bit about "escaping windows" was meant as a bit more of a joke. As I mentioned, I have no intention of getting rid of my windows machine. If nothing else, for the fact that almost everything else works in it, especially more recent games and more business related stuff. Looking at it for CAD was namely an idea.

@PR

Thanks for the welcome!
And good going with the cards!

@OlafS25

So long as I can plot a drawing as a .PDF or something similar, I wouldn't have any real issues. Thanks for the advice!

@cha05e90

O_O Wow! Thank you for the links! I'll be installing them soon to try them out.

@Yssing

Thanks, I will keep my eye out for that. ^_^

@Tomppeli

Just installed it here: Have you pressed the return key after entering the key before clicking ok?

@E.Coppersmith

Wow. Have a nice time with the new. My sad was that not a lot of old gems worked in the A1.

Allthough some new superfast. And lots to explore. Only My View.

Then from the thanks cards. Just gave the old Miga to girls, my work is a bit more advanced from 30 years of learning the hobby;).

Best Regards, PR

there is good operating systems out there you get free of charge. but the price is okay for now, admittedly. it is a discount compared to what they demanded for it few years ago. note, that you will have to pay extra for many basic or additional components that are usually part of the other systems content, such as graphic and 3d drivers for your card, stuff like that.

interesting, considering there is practically no commercial marked for this platform, what software is available at the same price?

sounds, like you want to find it out the hard way, why not?

Gotta machine.

Just for ideas. I'd buy the next OS too for the XE.

@wawa

As far as software, most of what I've found has been on OS4depot or http://amigaonthelake.com all of the software they have there is ether free or $28 and less. Given, not the most advanced stuff, but I'm more interested in functionality over shininess.

I don't really need software that auto-updates based on my past use of the software and interests, that connects to facebook or any other social media, or automatically uploads everything to a cloud whether I like it or not, etc. (most of those seem to be considered "basic" now... at least from what I've seen), I just need it to do the job it was meant for.

I honestly do miss being able to control what my computer does and how. Rather than convince it that; yes, I do know what I'm doing, no, this is the best set up for what I'm trying to do. I guess it depends on what you consider to be a headache.
