Interesting article about games and demo disks and the challenge of archiving legally. Also touches on hardware preservation. Article link.

@A1200

Just finished reading it. Has got me more than a little worried about the state of my disks up in my loft I dont currently have a working system to check them with either.

@Amiboy

I suppose we have to accept no matter where stuff is stored - nothing lasts forever.

@A1200

I stored my disk as ADF a long time ago, sadly many of disks where bad, and not recoverable.

not all disks can be backed up that way, some disk if they are original might have copy protection or some preventing backing up like that.

Lucky for me many of disk that where bad was Disk mag disks and stuff that can be download from internet anyway.

@A1200

Interesting read. The section on preserving digital games was amusing; I mean they are already in digital, just get the downloaded game file and back it up, or that's how it should be. I don't have many full games but ones I have do have corruption. I've already started backing up and going through my personal disk collection. Games can be sourced elsewhere, even if not a perfect duplicate, but my personal data over the years cannot and only has one original master copy.
