Not a completely unreasonable letter, but surely the writing is on the wall by now?

Ego and arrogance are at the helm, so it's pointless calling on sensibilities (there are none).
A certain few companies are more interested in trying to fool themselves that theyre needed, while simultaneously trying to force us to depend on them.
It seems very, very few people are taking them seriously, and less so with each day and action. Theyve managed to deter nearly all but the most hardcore of brand name followers.

I concoure with most of the above letter's sentiments. As much as I admire and respect Michael's work and efforts, I'll be boycotting Cloanto until this latest dispute is resolved.

The letter is addressing *both* companies, so I'll take it you'll also boycott Hyperion?

Otherwise you're not agreeing with it, that's all I'm saying.

@cgutjahr

That's why I said 'most' of the sentiments, not all in its entirety.

Here we go again. The emoticon collection needs to be expanded to include popcorn.

An open-ended question: where do you suppose Amiga Inc comes into all of this?

Amiga Inc is dead.

Or, as Valiant would put it: "They're mostly alive, but not entirely".

It is a serious warning by Olaf Barthel.

If both parties lose “last of a dying breed”, there will be no turning back.

I hope both parties come to an agreement soon.

Amiga Inc. is dead, long live Itec LLC

Itec want out of all this Amiga IP rubbish and want as much money as they can grab to attempt to fill the hole Pentti Kouri left with his financial misadventures! I doubt they care who owns the Amiga ROMs, source code or hardware schematics at this juncture but probably would prefer if the the money being used for legal fees by Hyperion/Cloanto went in their direction instead as payment for the www.amiga.com website!

WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY! LAWYERS SUCK!

Thanks for that link. Sorry to hear of yet another legal battle, I whole heartedly agree with the letter by the developers... but chances are there is more behind the scenes than we know about and if this is not resolved amicably it will put Amiga one step closer to the grave forever.

Scott

The only product that Cloanto makes, is an emulator for PC, and is based on another, WinUAE, which is free. What else does Cloanto do for Amiga?
In addition to legal disputes of course.

Virginio.

P.D.

Happy and Prosperous New Year for all the Amigans and family.

@WhoEver

To 'Thor' and 'Olsen' I say Thank You. Your letter expresses the regrettable sentiment I and others have tried to convey to all those involved with Amiga hardware and software.

We have become consumers instead of customers. Our interest in supporting the businesses in this small and shrinking world have too many times been met with callous disregard for our view of what Amiga was and could be again. So much so that many have simply moved along with only an occasional glance back to see if any signs of Amiga life stir.

Do I still want an Amiga? Yes, very much so, but to the parties involved and affected I hope this war is called to a quick end and agreement can be made outside of the courtroom battlefield because the victor may only inherit the wind.

P.S. There IS another Amiga like OS looking for a hardware home and customers.

For this reason.

Open source AmigaOS (68k and ppc) and stop pretending doing business with it.

At least Cloanto showed a road to an open source AmigaOS.
I rather wish Cloanto good luck. But even better just let the stuff go open source and forget all this drama (i.e. fighting about trademarks & copyrights).

I am so glad I am primarily a MorphOS user and AROS friend where this crap is not affecting the systems. Letting the name go and do a clean reimplementation was one of the best decisions...

@Zylesea

Why Amiga must be open source ?

Why not Morphos ?

And do you know where are the source code of Aros ?

What other Amiga product, apart an emulator ( based in WINUAE, a free emulator ) made Cloanto ?

Statement from hyperion looks funny.. "All those legal actions will drive away resources from drveloping" :) like os4 was in developing at all lately. I can smell the shit somewhere.. Wait, its all again about lawers and " resources" :)) where and who that resources ? All that pretending of big guys doing business always sound like omiga2000.

They made the Personal range of software, Personal Paint being the best known one. More recently they've made physical OS ROMs and disk sets available.
