HI
I have seen this already and am looking into the aspire laptops. I was hoping someone was using something with a bigger screen and wifi compatibility.

It is not only ACER aspire one laptops in that page. The 2 other laptops are 15" and for sure have wi-fi. One of the laptops you only need very easely to change the wi-fi card for the right type. You can find that wi-fi card on e-bay for almost nothing. Last edited by nikosidis on 18-Jan-2018 at 04:50 PM. Last edited by nikosidis on 18-Jan-2018 at 04:41 PM.

For WiFi remember you can always use a USB dongle - find a Netgear WG111v3 on e-bay, plug in in a USB port and that's WiFi sorted.
For the record, I use a Samsung n145+ as my work machine; highly portable and graphics and audio are supported (although unfortunately not 3D for the graphics) and at home a HP Compaq nc6320 which again has supported graphics and audio (including 3D, atlhough a special version of the hdaudio is needed for this machine instead of the usual Icaros one).
Cheers, Nigel. Last edited by ntromans on 24-Jan-2018 at 07:47 PM. Last edited by ntromans on 24-Jan-2018 at 07:46 PM.

You don't need any vmware image for vmware player. Just create a new virtual machine with these specs:
1 cpu 1 to 3 GB of RAM 1 usb 1.1 controller 8 to 120 GB virtual hard drive audio
and choose 'other OS' in the wizard. It will create an AROS compatible virtual machine. Then attach Icaros' ISO file as virtual cd-rom and boot straight from it, following the usual installation instructions. You may also want to choose a fixed vesa resolution for your vm, matching your monitor's one. If you need a 1920x1080 resolution, check video preferences for your virtual machine in vmware player, keep 3d acceleration selected (it won't hurt, even though AROS won't support it as a guest) and populate the screen size field entering '1920 x 1080' (or any other resolution you prefer). |

AFAIR the fix for your HP laptop is integrated into the default HDAudio driver in the latest Icaros.
However, I'm a bit slow to recommend USB wifi in AROS as it doesn't work well for everyone. |

VMware Player, for sure, if you don't need to mess with vSphere related virtual machines. Just be careful that version 14 does not work correctly on older (Core 2 Duo) Intel processors, since it needs more modern features on the host side. Stick to version 12 if you still have one of these. |

| As I type this I'm trying out a new Laptop I bought for 30 Euro. Compaq nc6420 Works with native 2D, 3D gfx. Intel Core Duo. Network chip not supported. I solved that easy by connection my phone with usb cable to share internet connection and in network.prefs I change Device to Usbrndis.device and saved. To start networking type Startnet from Shell.
Sound does work with this laptop but only with headphones. Speakers does not give any sound. It is a known problem but could always add some speakers to the headphone output if headphones are boring ;)
