| I have a mostly working AROS installation running in VirtualBox on maxOS X, except there is no sound. The VM has audio enabled using CoreAudio as the host driver and ICH AC97 as the audio controller.
Running AHI reports a single "ac97: 16 bit stereo++" driver only. I've selected the driver for all the units. Playing a test sound yields no result except we AHI window becoming unresponsive.
Interestingly this works out of the box with VMWare fusion. Albeit with a different driver.
Does anyone have ideas on what the fix might be?
Cheers! |

As I know, there is not possible to have sound with VirtualBox + AROS / macOS. It is really bad, I have tried some "sound cards", but it is not working. |

You running with the latest version of VirtualBox? I do know there was some audio issues with VB that was affecting even Haiku intermittently for the same host driver and controller but seems to be fixed now. _________________

I'm running VirtualBox 5.2.6 and its reporting as the latest.
I'd be happy to track down debug logs if anyone here could point me in the right direction. Last edited by remotenemesis on 21-Jan-2018 at 03:18 PM.

With Vbox 5.1.10, I at least get crackly sound in AHI prefs. Make sure to select PIIX3 as the chipset in you VM's settings (System->Motherboard). |

Thank you, and I'm happy to hear sound is working for you! I do have PIIX3 selected as the chipset without success. |

I also run Virtual Box 5.2.6 in a mac book Air. The Guest is Debian.
Sadly, my experience with sound is the same as you. So, it may have nothing to do with AROS. _________________ ..effects of civilization upon...nature, the growing gap between what education was supposed to accomplish and what it consisted of, the national debt and...high taxes, the problem of the excess cost of medical care -- Philip Wylie, 1951 |
