| Hello, I've got an Amiga1000 which doesn't boot. On Startup it does the following: 1.Power ON 2.Dark Gray Screen 3.Light Blue Screen / Light Gray Screen (Infinite LOOP) The power led gives 5 rapid blinks followed by a 1 second pause.
Internet search came up with Blue for Custom Chips' Malfunction and Tirquoise for RAM failure in Kickstart WCS. Does the latter mean that it tested the RAM area which would store the kickstart and found an error?
Any advice? |

I believe you are right in that it is detecting an error in WCS. Perhaps a checksum failed ... did it even attempt to load the Kickstart?

No it stops at step3. That is, alternating between Light Blue and Light Gray every 1-2 seconds approximately. |

Depending on your A1000 revision there will be a top mounted daughter-board. if so, try removing and re-seating it. Also make sure your front 256K expansion ram is secure and all contacts are clean.

Since Grey screen indicates CPU has passed and Blue points to a Custom chipset malfunction, It may not hurt to try different CIA chips or swap the two and see if the behavior changes.
of course the screen colour and flashing diagnostics is a rough guide, many things could trigger these codes. The joys of troubleshooting.

| @Drewlio77 That's probably a Turquoise screen rather than blue. It only appears on Amiga 1000s. Tried the CIA swapping last week, but it didn't work. |

You can try to get a hold of some D41464 Memory chips from ebay and piggy back each chip one at a time on the daughter board. This can help diagnose if the piggy-backed chip is bad (look for different behavior). If you do this take care not to short out the original chip's pins with the new chip. It needs to to be aligned correctly.
If you end up replacing any of the WCS RAM chips, use 18-pin Dual-wipe sockets. This helps with troubleshooting and future repair.
I would remove, socket and replace them all (because I can :)
There are 8 in total:
U1B to U1E and U2B to U2E, 150 NS or faster should do (15 or less marked on the chip).
