The Gerp 2018 demo party took place in Skövde, Sweden, this weekend. 9 Amiga demos was released, as well as 7 for other platforms. There were competitions for Amiga graphics, ascii and 4-channel mods too.

@AmigaOldskooler

Thanks for this Tulou is awesome! Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue is a great AGA demo and a worthy winner. Is the running/dancing man supposed be Donald Trump? Hilarious and well timed with the music.

@Thread

It's a shame that no one here wants to talk about content actually created on the Amiga and would prefer to talk about pointless subjects which boil down to the fact that we've become a privileged bunch of small time tinkerers! Seriously, it's like being a member of a classic car club for TVR/MG or some other defunct brand, where we reminisce about what could have been and bitch about the current IP owners rather than just enjoy our cars!

Such 'inspiring recent topics include Hyperion's financial model, NG Benchmark Stats and the completely pointless suggestion that everyone in different camps give up their corresponding IP to throw everything into Open Source! Pipe Dream City

This is all becoming really dull to be honest especially the ridiculous benchmarking thread (how's that spreadsheet looking Tuxedo ). Are we creative and forward thinking or are we going to continue to moan and bite the hands of those that are pushing the platform forward? Worse still are we going to devolve to the point of playing Top Trumps with PPC AmigaOne/MorphOS/AROS hardware? I hope not

@BigD

That is way cutting back on making comments, here instead focusing on coding.

a lot more interesting things is happening on FB this days then on forums.

I don't wont complain but I think demos seams to not challenge them self, doing the same thing year after year.

It's better than moaning about the state of Timberwolf and OWB!!! Amiga should be used creatively not just become glorified PeeCees or office computers. AmigaOS doesn't suddenly make mundane office tasks fun or the weekly internet shop bliss

@BigD

I agree with you. The demo-scene is very active as of late with many groups releasing everything from music-disks, small games, intros, graphics, ascii-art, disk magazines, music modules and of course demos.

Check out the recent releases on Pouet.net and one can see how much is developed these days.

Amiga prods at Pouet.net

All of these releases and of course the demo community itself makes the Amiga platform much more interesting and varied. Imagine if we did not have all those music modules to listen to, cool pixel-art to look at, all those demos showing what can be done with our old computers. The Amiga-scene would then be a more boring place if you ask me.

You mean, just like all other software on the Amiga? ;)

And if you really haven't seen anything new in Amiga demos in the past years, then you've been watching the wrong demos.
