The 030 will work fine with the mediator when its set to either 4mb or 0mb but this means no expansion cards work as they need memory which when enabled causes the Amiga to freeze. _________________ A1200 ACA1232 128MB Indivison MkIICr Elbox empty Power Tower RPi3 Emulating C64 ZX Atari PS BBC Wii with Amiga emulation Vampire v4 SA |

If you have an FPU on your ACA1233, you may have to disable certain CPU modes to get it to work reliably. I'm pretty sure IComp never sold any 1233 boards with an FPU fitted, so it's officially an unsupported configuration, and there's always a chance that's doing something that reduces compatibility. Adding a Mediator into the mix (which is doing its own, separate messing about with the accelerator port) is only complicating things even further. You can't expect Jens to offer any more support than he already has for hardware configurations that he doesn't officially support and has no interest in.
Talking to Elbox seems like the only sensible thing to do here - if their tool doesn't work with the 4MB jumper set, maybe you should find out why. Does a Radeon card need an 8MB window for example? As already pointed out, nothing else that requires DMA will work until the graphics card is working, so that's your first step.
I'm not familiar with the newer Mediators, but I don't remember having to use a config tool to set up my original model + Voodoo 3. I could simply edit ENV variables, reboot and the settings were changed. _________________ RobTheNerd.com | InstallerGen | SMBMounter | Atoms-X |

To be fair to IComp least they bothered to reply to my email. Unlike Elbox which as of yet cant be even bothered to reply.

The burst mode is recommended to be disabled on the ACA 12xx cards if instability issues arise if an FPU is installed. I have have not had any issues at all in the past with this setup even with all CPU caches enabled.
There are some recommendations that come with the ACA accelerators. These include A1200 motherboard timing fixes. This involves the removal of certain surface mount capacitors on the backside of the motherboard pertaining to its revision. Something that might be worth investigating.

Thanks mate I will look into trying that. I Have also thought about trying my other motherboard from my desktop system. _________________ A1200 ACA1232 128MB Indivison MkIICr Elbox empty Power Tower RPi3 Emulating C64 ZX Atari PS BBC Wii with Amiga emulation Vampire v4 SA |

The ACA cards have very fast memory access. This helps them achieve very good performance compared to am 030 at similar or even higher clocks.

Yes seems to be the case. Wonder why they never did 060 ACA cards are 060 chip hard to get? _________________ A1200 ACA1232 128MB Indivison MkIICr Elbox empty Power Tower RPi3 Emulating C64 ZX Atari PS BBC Wii with Amiga emulation Vampire v4 SA |

They're far more expensive and more difficult to find in any reasonable quantities that might be enough to warrant a production run. As well as that, there's also much less demand since most people upgrade their machines to play classic games using WHDLoad, and an 030 is about the sweet spot for that. Plenty of games benefit from the extra 030 power, but fewer take advantage of the 060 compared to the 030. What few games really need an 060 also need graphics cards etc. too, so the potential userbase really is quite small. _________________ RobTheNerd.com | InstallerGen | SMBMounter | Atoms-X |

I'm waiting for the Vampire A1200 for that (if they ever get around to making them or they drop the RTG feature)

Not sure what you mean. The mediator can run with a 4MB window and a gfx card. Also with an 8MB window, it is placed at $200000-$a00000 so indeed outside where the ACA sits ($c00000 apparently). The PCI memory is not actually sitting at $200000, it's just a (narrow) window to PCI memory. It is shifted to where it is needed. if you do a pciinfo you see that the PCI card addresses lay somewhere between $80000000-$90000000. So if you want to read $80000000 the mediator shifts in hardware the window to that address and $200000 now points to $80000000. A read from $200000 is then a read from $80000000.
A bit technical, but the point is that 4MB or 8MB should not matter. Only the amount of switching the window about is increased when you make the window smaller (and hence the speed drops).
Tried MMU off/on in ENVARC:Mediator?

I believe the MMU option is off by default, you may need to set the variable to "ON". Regardless, try the opposite of it's current state.
