@g01df1sh

Is eBay up for sale!?

Oh wait, this is an Amiga site. False alarm. Never mind.

@Hypex

Lol

I wish Hyperion would sell up and let OS4 go to a company that can support it...

I see what you mean. I don't like the way OS4 has been fractured into a base installer, then graphic driver and now an extras pack. In reality all three are needed for a fully working system, unless you are running a poor mans OS4 in an emulator. Now I agree developers need to be paid. But to the outside world I think this looks bad. Why is there not one complete product? Look at MorphOS, a direct competitor to AmgaOS4, and how it provides the full OS in one package. And it's developers are praised for not only providing a stable OS but for their support as well, at least when I read about it. It becomes obvious, even fron an outside look, that the OS is fraught with problems due to internal politics. People, pride and selfishness. The Commodore legacy continues. This shouldn't be. I'm at the point where I think all this combined is an insult to the Amiga computer and people that started it all. Even if the orginal wasn't perfect. What goes on under the hood of a company is none of the users business, they have a right to manage it as they see fit, as long as they manage all those people to do well on the end product. But here, OS4 has been fractured into different components, by different companies. Not taking hardware into account. I just think this doesn't look good at all and complicates the process. Now there is FE and extra OS components or renamed replacements. How about they combine that under one banner, something like AmigaOS4 FE SE, EE, or FE. Confusing letters aside, Special, Extra or Full Edition. Basic to best. Priced accordingly. Done.

@Hypex

I would just like to see some progress again. With all the delays it has just made me more nervous of investing in OS4 now. The vampire seem like a better route to go the main thing lacking on all Amiga OS versions is a full working modern web browser and office suit. Plus advanced printer support once these 3 things have been solved then we will truly have a nice working platform whether its Aros Morphos or Amiga os4.x and even OS3.x 68K

R.I.P A1222 I think the chance of a resurection has passed....

@g01df1sh

A common theme among OS4 people is having some progress. But what sort of progress would you like? And in the OS or outside it.

The Vampire has really picked up. People are excited about it. Had I stil been using a real Amiga for my computing (perish the thought lol) I'd be really excited and right onto it. But I moved on. On to OS4 of all things. LOL. So for me it doesn't excite as it would have years ago. Call my self a die hard Amiga fan. Pathetic!

The browser situation will only get worse IMHO. Things didn't exactly get better with HTML5 video and flash losing out. Even Linux PPC is touch and go these days. Like with Debian Jessie I load up FireFox. It's slow but ok this is on my A1. I look up a site and it just crashes. Well the window just closes. So it acts unstable. I bet it's one of those endian problems we encounter now.

Office yes. Well AmiCygnix did suit us for a time with its apps. Even if it did look like a wierd looking and slow Linux desktop emulator.

Advanced printer support you say? Forget that! I'd be happy with BASIC printer support! Ha!

This just got worse. I bought a new HP. Broken with my HP Photosmart driver port. Soon after get an email about shooting out blank pages. Yup, code too old, and uisng obsolete methods. On to do list.

The A1222, though it sounded reasonable, would still be too slow IMHO. Might be another machine engineered for OS4 that lacks drivers. And doesn't run OS4 better than on other machines. So, fair enough. Good idea while it lasted.

Just this line from the above link.
