Today I have written a new blog post covering Spencer running on AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition Update 1 on my AmigaOne X1000.

Link is here:

@PR

Should work with Radeon 9xxx with reduced graphics quality (no shadows, not as nice ;) )

But it needs OS4.1 Final Edition (available for around 4 years now??? ;) ).

Some more feedback :

Low End Radeon SI Card performance
Radeon R7-240 gives 22-23 fps on X5000/020 .

@Spectre660

Thanks for the data. I never thaught that it is such a difference. I think a good option for this card is to disable antialiasing and set the shadow to low (then the shadow is "baked" and not realtime, it is a huge performance killer but not the biggest visual difference).

@Spectre660

Is that an R7-240D by any chance? They're 64-bit and even slower.

Either way, this confirms that, yes, higher-end cards really do make a difference on AmigaOS.

@Hans

Its is the Asus R7240-2GD3-L so it is actually 128-bit .
All the other cards above have gddr5 ram so it would be interesting to see a result
from a gddr5 Oland card too.

Update added results for a PowerColor R7-250X .
Giving better 3D results than the R7-370 .

Interesting that the X5000 machines don’t feature until mid way down page 4 of the results table.
Clearly X5000 drivers are still not fully optimised.

@TargExplorer

I asume that you are refering to GxfBench2D results ?.

DMA support is not done for the X5000 yet.
This is reflected in the MemCopy scores .
I noticed something interesting a couple of days ago witha Radeon HD6450

Sam460ex - HD6450

MemCopy Score: 603.20
Operation MiB/s

I loaded up the Spencer trial on my XE. The main screen loaded up and was looking good. Fluent enough. But it crashed as soon as I went into the game.

On my X1000, it was both more stable and unplayable. Gave me an error straight up:
TAG: EntwicklerXGameEngine "could not open RenderSurface"
could not create GL context

Is this a Nova thing? I found it hard to get info on this game. I see Warp3d Nova references but not as a requirement. And there is MiniGL. So I'm confused about this one.

If not even my X1000 has MiniGL this is sad. We had this 3d software API using 2d hardware compositing. What happened to tha? Would be real useful now.

@Hypex

Spencer needs Warp3DNova or Warp3D or Warp3DSI.
You need to buy the Enhancer package for Warp3DNova from AmiStore is you don't already have it . Of course there is a newer version of the Enhancer in the works and that will probably have a cost so probably wont be a free upgrade . So be guided accordingly .
Warp3DSI is the Warp3D version for Radeon SI cards. It is a separate product from Warp3DNova and can also be purchased form the AmiStore .
Once installed there are some newer versions or the various libraries that need to be downloaded and installed by the Enhancer updater for Spencer to work .

@Spectre660

I actually purchased the enhancer Plus package along with Spencer so I had all the latest drivers and what have you. I compared all the options of different drivers and what they offered and decided Plus was best value for money with all things considered.

However this too is unclear. Along with Radeon HD drivers there is a Warp 3d package. Does this also need to be purchased? It's about the same price as the top Radeon driver. In any case my X1000 only has a HD5450 so is useless for any 3d games or even the MiniGL Cube demo which doesn't work like it does on my A1.

But still the info for this game is lacking. I googled it and all I got were Windows links. The Amiga links I found didn't list where the main site is. The link here provided by the author doesn't work for me. If we are to play and support Amiga game development then Amiga game developers will need to promote them better to the Amiga scene. Another example, the readme, it talks about Amiga stuff at the start but then in the requirements said it needs a Ghz Windows PC. Huh? Why do I need a Windows PC to play an AmigaOS4 game? That's how it reads!

@Spectre660

I posted to that thread.

But that is news announcement about it being available on AmiStore.

In any case my XE had none of those things and it still loaded up.
