There will ever be an AmigaOs 4.2?

Reading about business exit of amiga inc, the recent troubles of Hyperion guys and the rumors about a renewed interest of Cloanto about AmigaOs rights and its development, I'm asking myself what's to expect in the next weeks/months about development of AmigaOS4.
How many chances are to see an AmigaOs4.2? What we can expect?

Its a shame that OS4 could be in development hell (if its not already) dont get me wrong they got some great people who have worked on the OS for free to bug fix and improve things but for a OS you do really need paid full time developers, and unfortunately even with the sales of X5000, Os4.1 final edition and the rise of emulation and sales that must of generated I still dont think they could afford to employ developers (as they have eluded to them selfs with idea being chuck about in turning it into a subscription based OS to help fund and speed up development) plus it as shame that development is so slow its hurting A1222 chances of changing things.

What I mean by that is when it was first announced a low cost PPC amiga to be even cheaper than the sam boards and be as cheap as possible entry for the OS4 markets, I think it generated quite a bit of a re-newed interest but now that emulation has happened and development is so slow and the future is so uncertain I think its really hurt the A1222 sales and momentum it had at its announcement.

I hope Os4 does continue to be developed, weather Hyperion or Cloanto or even a third party (a-eon) gains control of it, it be a real shame if it just stopped I dont know what the solution is to the current problems are (more money!) but I hope OS4 has a long life in it yet and hope this is just another bump in its long road.

Waiting to purchase for the XE.

Quite an expensive road was. Many got paid from the support.

Hope to support more. If was a coder..

@Fl@sh

If they go the easy route (new icons, skins and other eyecandy), OS4.2 can be released within one month.

Not a designer, I take it.

Good luck creating a replacement for MasonIcons and AISS toolbar images in one month...

@ASiegel

Why bother with replacing all icons? I wrote the easy way - eg. icon drawers in another colour...

Nope, two weeks.

BUT, Hyperion does have a license that grants them the exclusive right to develop future variants of AmigaOS.

SO...I wouldn't be too worried about it , EXCEPT that they don't appear to have too many resources that can be devoted to that task, AND the market is tiny.

Full support for audio on board, lan, network, and multicore in 4.1 FE update 2 for X1000, X5000 and A1222!
4.2 is just a number if you look from one side...from other it is new step... but Hyperion is in some kind of mess... money is problem...

My Idea was to contact a manufacter for a Printer Driver and Net.

Killer OS for sure then without viri and fast.

Just an old idea for free.

@Fl@sh

My own opinion, it really doesn't matter.

Based on the experience of the past few.. Months, Years, Whatever...

There will always be drama.
There will always be development.
The development will always be slower than we want.
There will always be people who say it's dead already.
There will always be people who have hope for the future.
There will always be deadlines missed.
There will always be great ideas without realization.
There will always be those who swear we need a different processor
There will always be those who swear we need to be public domain.
There will always be opposite opinionns about what "We" need to do.
There will always be different opininons about who "We" are.

At some point, the Version/Revision numbers may change, or they may not.
That really won't affect the list mentioned above.

And the reason I don't much care, is that I will always do what _I_ want,
no matter what "they" think I should be doing.

That's just how I roll.

Wish I knew. I finally have enough to buy an X5000, but figure I might as well wait for an X5000/40 at this point in history. I'm guessing they are holding up the public roll-out of the X5000/40 for some kind of functioning SMP support.

Paul
(wiling to bet the purchase of an X5000 that there will be further advancement and development of OS4 whether it's called 4.2 or whatever.)

@Paul

Actually, my guess would be that they'd like to sell the complete initial run of the X5000/20 first.
And that the X5000/40 will cost a little more.

Finally, you can't use the extra cores under an NG OS.

So unless you're into using hardware that's not as well supported or powerful as a X64 system under Linux, what would be the point?

count me to the 5th group in your list. Sometimes -I'm sure- you can dip me for a couple of time units in the 10th group.
Group 11 I know it's called "Those who do the magic". (Thanks, you Wizards! :))

I definitively would like to be in group 12 with you! :"D

Announcing a product like that 3 - 4 years before it's actually available is just pure insanity from a business perspective.
I was excited for the A1222 in 2016.
Frustrated in 2017.
Now it's 2018 and I've pretty much stopped caring.

Problem is, IMHO, they scheduled this to 'happen' 2 years ago, but eventually got stuck somewhere when reality stepped in.
