| HI all
I need help I bricked my vampire v2 600 a few months ago . It all started when I tried to in stall the new gold 2.9 core, I done this on the amiga site you know EXE install
the flash was successful but when I switch it back on I got the new boot logo and the drive would keep coming up with the guru error.
So I went online to get one of those USB blaster arrived yesterday and flash the card again with the JIC file
Now all I get is a black screen
I have tried different cores but some cores the power and red light come on and still black screen and others the power light only the amiga just hangs

You should try the official apollo core/vampire forums, where they offer support. _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

| Ive got a kippercard too, and use x10 just fine.
I should add that I have issues with the card becoming unseated, and it can be quite sensitive/annoying to get it reseated. It does give gurus/black screens until I get it perfectly aligned again.
Its why I never touch my V600 once its working perfectly. (got USB keyboard and mouse) Last edited by Overflow on 14-Apr-2018 at 01:18 PM.

I see that Majsta refuses to fix "kipper boards".
(Which would be the equivalent of Joe down at the bicycle shop refusing to fix the bikes that his ex-buddy Jack, who used to work at the bicycle shop, had put together.)
@cat9921 Where did you buy the card? I would contact the retailer and ask for repair, refund, or new board. If they refuse to offer refund, repair or new board, register complaint with your local customers rights organisation. Last edited by kolla on 14-Apr-2018 at 07:39 PM.

Well, its been said rather clearly that the newer cores might be more than kippercards can handle due to some component choices. While not optimal, I wont hold that against the Vampire team forever and ever.
They have stated that IF you have one of those cards, you need to have a USB Blaster handy, unless you do the cap fix. Or restict yourself to 2.5. OR x10 versions of the newer cores (still a gamble of sorts). Higher X versions of the core IS a gamble. My card handled x11 just fine Gold 2.7.
And The bicycle shop comparison is less than stellar cause it doesnt factor in the work overheard Majsta will be facing given how many cards kipper made.
And for the record; I have no problem with kipper. He is a friendly and helpful guy, and Ive had plenty of fun with my card (when RL permits). I will eventually get around to do the cap fix tho. Last edited by Overflow on 14-Apr-2018 at 08:22 PM. Last edited by Overflow on 14-Apr-2018 at 08:21 PM.

i usually fix my bicycle myself, but i certainly have different experiences with the bicycle workshops, and they usually just want to sell you parts if not replace the whole bicycle after a year intense riding.
now. if one workshop given license to build something refuses to fix their own product, should it be duty of the genuine developer to do that? now whoever built the boards its his responsibility. if there is design flaw affecting genuine functionality, it might be duty of the designer. but a new core might not be covered by that as long as the old works.
all in all its is a work in progress community drive project. and i think that there is coulance expected on part of the developers as much as of the customers, within reason that is. |

As a customer, I don't give a flying banta about who genuine developer is, or who did what - I bought a product from the workshop, it turns out to have flaws, and if the workshop refuses to fix it (blaming one of their ex coworkers), I will for sure remind them of their obligations as an entity.
Which is the point here, this "team" seems to no more be a team once they face any problems, then each an every one is on their own. At the time I bought the V600v2, Kipper was part of "The Apollo Team", all communications I had regarding the boards was with some entity signing with "The Apollo Team", and in the dealings, Kipper was acting on behalf of the team. I even got mail from "The Apollo Team" telling me how lucky I was that my board was shipped.
Which brings me back to - who is "The Apollo Team", and who has what responsibilities when poo hits fans, and do they take their responsibilities seriously? Sure, you can fix the boards yourself, but any hardware modifications involving soldering is really the responsibility of the retailer and manufacturer - CE labels, remember? Sure, there are extra costs involved, but trying to hide behind "community driven hobby project" just to cut cost is rather dishonest and can easily create even more problems._________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

So they should just have the old boards replaced, easy and simple.

Its not defective JUST cause its unable to tolerate 2.7 or 2.9. The team has stated that some cards are produced in such a way it MIGHT not be able to use 2.7-2.9 and/or higher than x10 speeds. Attempting so will be a gamble, which I personally have taken, and luckily its worked out for me. The team has also recommended that those that want to use the higher cores with weaker caps, SHOULD do a cap fix.
In the original post, cat9921 only says "different cores", but does that different variants of 2.7-2.9? x10-x12, or 2.5 and lower cores? |

| The Vampire thing is kind of cool but I must admit it is more things now that are stoping me from buying it.
Hardware problems and not to talk about the OS situation.
Now I see Atari OS as option. That is ok. No problem with that but seams they have a big problem there.
I tought maybe they could use and further develop AROS 68k but seams to me as it is written i C it is to slow compared to the original Amiga OS.
This is at least a show stopper for me before they solve the OS situation. I'm not going to use 25 year old OS that are not further developed.

It seems its mostly kippercards that got issues, due to choice of caps.
Regarding the OS situation; I share your concern.
Sadly seems like AROS 68k has come to a standstill. |

Yes, that is realy a shame.
I don't quite understand their plan now. Hardware is all good but without at good OS being worked I'm confused. They only reasonable way is AROS 68k or buy the rights to AmigaOS. That is not very likely to happen. |

Well, Ive finally installed the Coffin OS (Altho barely touched it due RL time constraints), and it looks very nice. Ofcourse, with the AOS3.x issues regarding development/legal issues, I would have loved to see the Coffin design applied to AROS instead. But I assume that would require far too much work on the core for sufficient performance (Im just wildly guessing).
Point is; with Coffin, even the dead AOS 3.x is quite userfriendly, comparatively speaking. |

You think there is a plan? Plans are made up as "they" go._________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

That would seem strange to use AROS for a 68K Amiga accelerator as there is already the real 68K AmigaOS. I don't see why OS3.1 couldn't be licensed for use on the stand alone. If Hyperion, who recenly released an updated Kickstart, have the rights to this they could come to an agreement that would benefit both parties. Now there is also the 3.5/3.9 abomination made up of PD software so getting past OS3.1 may be hard. Without other sources like AROS. |

Well they've hit the nail on the head there, or here a nail in the coffin, if they intend to bury AmigaOS inside.
Licensing issues aside from providing a full image that doesn't look like it needs an OS3.9 CD for once, I wonder what make and model is preset in the RDB? Since a generic full disk image is not suitable for AmigaOS as it stores the drive make and model in the RDB. They could store a "Coffin" in there but that would still be technically incorrect. |
