| Venting some frustrations.
Running a heterogeneous computing environment has its ups and downs. One of my latest downs is our frustrations about wireless video.
We have about 2 dozen small conference rooms. They are being equipped with physical HDMI connections in the table, which run over to the TV on the wall for video. About half this conference rooms are usable by us and the public. We have Win 7/ 10, Macs, IOS, and Android devices which all may be on this network.
I'd like to do wireless video, but there are problems. Unfortunately, Airplay and Chromecast are video applications that ride across Wifi. I use them at home and no problem. Here it's a problem. Why? The Wifi network can't be guaranteed. We have public visitors on public Wifi. We have internal staff on private wifi. And one doesn't want to bridge the two Wifis, bad security.
We do have WiDi/Miracast devices here too. The nice thing about these is this is its own protocol. It doesn't rely on Wifi. If one was connected to any of the 4 Wifi networks we have one could still use Miracast. .... Apple can't use it. Android did away with Miracast back in v6 or v7 and they focus on Chromecast.
I get and support competition. But, sometimes it doesn't make sense. Do we really need each OS with its own incompatible wireless video 'standard'?
Rant-off, Thank you! Last edited by BrianK on 17-Apr-2018 at 04:17 PM.

Hi,
I think I follow your rant and what you are trying to overcome.
I use multiple devices and I wirelessly stream Audio and video using this application with great success give it a go it has a 30 day free trial I believe.
I use the remote app on my iPhone it's brilliant.

| Why do we need 'Apps' to connect to devices?
Do we need an App to use VGA or HDMI? Nope.
Android used to support Miracast/WiDi. They took out that standard to replace with their own app/standard. Apple uses their own standard.
Shouldn't Wireless Video be a universal standard?
Reminds me of that old IT Joke. If you don't like the 'standard' choose a different one. Except in this case you get a new standard for wireless video with every OS. Last edited by BrianK on 20-Apr-2018 at 01:11 PM.
