This might be a better topic for general technology forum, but I'm curious about how it will affect our websites in particular, so...

http://os4welt.de/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2117

Please note Cyborg's response.

Since then I noticed the largest German language site A1k.org post on Facebook:
They will accept no new registrations from May 24th and the site will be a closed "society", which I gather means closed website to new members.

As of today I see that if you are a non logged in member, you can not even read the site content:
http://www.a1k.org/forum/

Can someone confirm that for me please?

Any admins of other websites are welcome to post their new policies (if changed as a result).
If there really is going to be a deadline for new users to register on some sites, I think the users deserve to know aforehand.

Thank you.

https://www.eugdpr.org/key-changes.html

"Under GDPR organizations in breach of GDPR can be fined up to 4% of annual global turnover or €20 Million (whichever is greater)."

You may have noticed how little the A-EON sites (this and a.org) have prepared themselves in this regard, so what do you think happens when shit hits the fan?

@kolla

Im sick of GDPR its just another way for companys to make money. Just when all the PPI crap is about to end we now have this shit to deal with. I don't care what info they have if you don't want your personal life on the net simple don't post stuff you don't wont people to know.

@g01df1sh

Your sickness doesn't really make any difference. GDPR doesn't have so much to do with what you post online, as to what the information about you is collected and further processed, most of the time without your knowledge. I don't really see how you can say it is a way for companies to make money, if anything, it is an extra cost for companies, especially if they don't comply.

I suppose panic has erupted...

http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?s=2a14bd4902b449292695832cd1d1d352&t=73566

"It is anticipated that the site will be offline for around 7-10 days."

As A-EON is also the registered owners of this site (according to whois-info anyways), I suppose the same will happen here.

are you sure? sorry if im coming off ignorant, but the summary would suggest, it will actually only affect large companies beyond 200 employees working up personal data for marketing purposes. id like to avoid the knee jerk reaction, eu is an Illuminati installment led by lobby interests, before proven otherwise. aint we over reacting?

Can anyone confirm this is currently a few old pics followed by nothing but "posts" and endless blank lines?

Bah. I should have said as a non-facebook member the above seems to be the case. Prior to this, the site was entirely readable as a non-facebook member.

Isn't GDPR an EU regulation? Just move the site to US or any other web based friendly location.

Similarly to what certain software vendors are doing with Indian Ocean.

@Nonefornow

Doesn't matter, it's servicing people in Europe.

Also, expect other jurisdictions to implement similar laws, it's not like they were made up from thin air, they are a direct result of companies abusing the data collected about users.
