@MichaelMerkel

The show was nicely done, there were nearly a dozen A1's (both ATX & ITX versions) on display, all running AOS4.

The following people where there:
- Me
- Alan Redhouse
- Petro T. Tyschtschenko
- The Frieden brothers
- Timothy De Groote
- Guido Does (?) from Vesalia
- Ron Van Dyck (Computer City)
- Sebastian Brylka (Amiga Insider)
- Alexander Lohrmann (The guy who's writing the interpative 68k emu)
- Steffen Hauser
- Jens Shoefield (Individual Computers)
- Chip (One of the guys behind Moovid)
- The Coyote Flux guys
- Voker Mohr

And a whole bunch of people i don't know :)

Alan held a speech about the goals of the MicroA1, and their targets, he explained also why China is very intrested in low power comsuming computers. Also, there will be a Remote Windows Client available for AOS4.
After his speech he held a questions & awnsers session, but there weren't any really important questions asked, or facts revealed, so not much news there, and two questions asked about Pegasos (live flamebait )

The friedens didn't do a speech, but they were more then willing to awnser "when it's done" to whomever asked about "when will we see AOS4?"

Also on display was Arteffect 4, FreeSpace, AudioEvolution and alot of ports of emulators and simular Open Source programs (Mame comes to mind)

The small room where the event was held was constantly full of people, and it was intresting to speak with Petro, who is now doing consultancy work for Gericom.

Pictures will be online soonish

Cheers

@Eric_S

I talked to Alan about it, and he didn't want to say much, other then that it's not finalised yet, basicly, their goal is to make a stripped down MicroA1 with an extension slot simular to the CPU slot, so they have a base machine upon wich to build on for specific demands.

Cheers

Wow ... I didn't know that there was an ITX version of AmigaOne ... but I'm still waiting for my mini-ITX version of AmigaOne

Interesting... Perhaps the AGP will be "rerouted" after all, but to the expansion slot/card?

Only time will tell I guess.

I'm getting confused again with these form factors.
As far as I know there is the following,
A1 SE, A1 XE - ATX
A1 XC - Micro ATX - When its done, probably with DDR
u-A1 - Mini ITX - When there is a market for 10,000 of them - I think prototype ones were running OS4 at the show

No major anouncements then. I thought by this time a packaged u-A1 / OS4 release date and price would be announced by now. I mean, it is not Nov 2003 but May 2004 now.

There's all this talk about China from Alan, but does anybody know if they are actually INTERESTED in what Eyetech and co are doing? Or is he just wishful thinking? Would be great to see China be the first major buyer, but then that also seems somewhat out there

There was originally an ITX form factor specification for PCs, but it was never really adopted. That's almost 100% certain to be the mini-ITX.

Just to give you my impressions...

I arrived at 11 o'clock and the showing room was already quite full of people. The climax was around two hours later, about 200 people were there, I estimate. Then Alan gave a speak but unfortunatly I did not understand what he said because in the last rows of the crowd you just couldn't hear what he said. Next time a microphone wouldn't be that bad! ;)
Everyone could check the shown A1s or a MicroA1 all with OS4. There was a new version of Papyrus but it was quite buggy, after some workaround you could test it. It was the first time I experienced the OS4 and the speed and fluidity was in some situations not that impressive to me. But it really made fun to click and test around, the certain Amiga-feeling came up. Unfortunatly the A1s were a bit naked, that means with no additional tools (nice was the c64 emu frodo or atari emu stella). I would like to have tested some older 68k tools to compare. Next time I will bring in my own stuff on CD and test ;)
All in all it was a nice event with a lot of friendly people. :)

It was a very nice show!

I was surprised to see so many people there and it was great to meet
old and new Amiga Friends.

That was like, the good old days!

A big thank you to alle the people who made this possible!
