The last few days we have all been suffering from AW.net withdrawel symptoms. Things would have been hunky dory if everything was on RAID.

Ive been thinking if everyone donates £2 - that should be enough to cover the cost of a Raid setup easy.

Come on admit it - none of you had lives when this site was down

I took the opportunity to finally get MOL going, instead of spending time here

@Bobsonsirjonny

Even RAID arrays can fail and can be a pain to restore. A cheaper sollution (I doubt Amigaworld.net can spend lots of money on a good RAID system) would be to have an image of the OS partion (IE Norton Ghost) that can be restored in less then an hour (providing somebody is there to do it, but it's a matter of putting in a floppy disk and restore), and then putting the website / database back from the last made backup.

Tho I must say, if Amigaworld is hosted on a dedicated server by a good provider I would suspect they had servers with RAID for at least the data.

Should have called this topic
AMITHON (not to be confused with Amithlon).

£2 is all that is needed to keep these freaks from freaking out! £5 will keep them in CD's for a week!

What great timing, I was too busy moving house to have noticed AW was down and was trying in vain to get my wireless internet going again at my new location.
And I only caught the last two hours......and I was still pissed off.
You guys must have sufferred heaps.

You know, I wonder if Capacity Networks has a solution for your RAID problem. Your data could have been duplicated all over the place. I dunno. Only a stupid suggestion.

RAID is not panacea. A local hosting company with RAID had problems recently and thousands of sites were offline for more than a week. They claimed this as very bad luck since they were guaranteed 99% but sadly they felt in the unhappy 1%.

Hmm, do one have to sign up for paypal just to donate, could it not be made as a regular credit card transaction ???

@Step

Yes you have to sign up for security reasons to prove that the Credit / Debit card belongs to you.

@Step

I guess the transaction cost with credit card would be too high.
PayPal is almost perfect for "micro" transactions.
