For those of you who are interested, I just uploaded a WIP version of VICE to the WIP section of my homepage. It has some limitations (most GUI options have no effect, etc). However, you can atleast attach/detach and autostart disk and tape images and the numpad is used to emulate a joystick in port 2. Have fun!

@AmiDog

Cool! I've always wondered why no none had ported this to the Amiga -- considering the relationship and all. Thanks!

It's a collection of Commodore machine emulators (from Pet to CBM 128).

@AmiDog

Thanks AmiDog, you have just made my Sunday!

Playing all my old C64 programs (and some of my own old creations) on VICE on my A1 is just brilliant! Full speed as well!

Job well done,

Bean.

VICE emulates the C64, C128, VIC20, PLUS4, PET and CBM-II. The C64 and VIC20 emulation is really good IMHO, C128 lacks the 2MHz mode and the PLUS4 one is still somewhat limited and more advanced effects like FLI doesn't work. I can't comment on the PET and CBM-II as I don't have such hardware myself (I've got the others) so I have nothing to compare with.

I've tested some PET programs with it under Beos, and both Basic and asm games ran fine. It even emulates the later 80 columns PETs, and their startup's cute jingle.

@AmiDog

It seems VERY solid for a first release. It doesn't work on a 32 bit Workbench here though - had to switch back to 16.

C64 Games run at 100% speed though and totally smooth. Even newer games like Mayhem in Monsterland and Turrican 3. I also briefly tried the other emulators which also ran at full speed.

Warp mode also works - which is nice when you're loading tape games. Except when they have Invade-a-load on them, in which case the loading-game is often more fun than the actual game. Oh, and those sweet Hubbard tunes

I got 1100% speed when I enabled Warp mode in an intro. With true drive emulation enabled I got 500-700% speed while loading from disk.

This is very, very cool. Can't wait for fullscreen and the ability to hook up a joystick

Sure, it's not easy though. Look in the drawer for the system you wish to configure, like C64. Open the file amiga_pos.vkm in that directory with a text editor. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll find the "Joystick 2" setup. As you can see, you need to know the RAWKEY values for the keys, so as I said, it isn't very easy to configure. It's the same for all ports I think. At some point I'd like to add a simple GUI, showing a picture of the emulated machines keyboard and the option to select a key using the mouse and then just press the desired key on the keyboard to map it. However, this means I need to find pictures of all keyboards...

@All

I've made some small fixes and made a new release. It should hopefully work with any colormode (15/16/24/32bit) now and no longer crash if you start it from CLI with some faulty parameters...

Someplace you can recommend to find C64 games? I can honestly say I bought all my C64 days back in the day -- still have them, in fact! But tapes are not really the medium I prefer to use anymore ...

I went to your WIP but I can only see FPSE and AMP2 files, not the VICE. I tried refreshing page but still no go. Any ideas what I am doing wrong

It's not there anymore. Go to his main page and you'll a separate page (new, I presume) dedicated to VICE. :)
