Hi.

Sure. It is actually on my todo list, but let's see if Dennis gets there first :)

I am trying to push Nethack out of door. I tried to get the build process painless on OS4 SDK.

BTW: I'm happy Dennis ported Hellband and thus shortened my TO-DO as well. Thanks Dennis. There are a couple more: Opinion Angband and Multiband, but I haven't tried these yet, too.

@A3000T, Mr_Capehill

Thank you guys for clearing this up for me. :)

One more question, how hard (how soon possible) it is to make sound working in the ports? I love playing with a custom sound setup having multiple samples for an event. May do my share of help to build a sample set & config using some non-commercial samples, what do you say?

Hi,

The sound would have been included in day 1 if there would have been the sound sources available - at least I never found them.

Perhaps I and Dennis should think about AHI support...

I was working on it today, but the compiler keeps crashing for some reason. I'll upload it if I can get it to compile.

Kind regards,

Dennis

Yes. AHI support and support for loading graphic tilesets via datatypes would be good.

The problem is, I don't know how to do that (yet). I'm just a beginner when it comes to programming. I have learned a lot since I started porting Angband variants, but I stil have a long way to go.

Kind regards,

Dennis

@A3000T

Yes, there are some nice graphics set available.

One possibility would be build a SDL version of the game. But I would really like to see a shared SDL library first :)

I guess the graphics can be easily loaded with datatypes. The blitting part (may) must be changed when using different size tiles, maybe also some changes are needed to those files which describe which tile maps to which object etc...

About those sound sources...
I have contacted the admin of angband.oook.cz , a site featuring Angband sources browser, asking him for the Amiga specific sound sources. He replied to me as follows:

'Sources are the same for all the platforms, everything official should be found at www.thangorodrim.net.
I'm afraid I cannot help more.'

Regarding Amiga specific sources place at Thangorodrim:
http://www.thangorodrim.net/compiling.html#Amiga_SAS
the Amiga sources link is broken, too bad... but you surely know already.

I just found something:

http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/angband/Amiga/Ang279v6Src.lha

It seems to contain some sound source code - may be useful.

@ @-likers:

Just uploaded NetHack 3.4.3 to OS4Depot.

Here it looks like this:

http://www.student.oulu.fi/~jniemima/amiga/nh1.png

but it can also be played in ASCII mode.

Let me know if you find any problems.

Ps. I try to send the slightly modified sources back to the maintainers, when find some time.

Anything new about the sound sources and implementation, guys?

I'm eager to see an OS4 rogue-like with sound.

Can help in any other way than coding&compiling?

@Mr_Capehill

I prefer the font version, but aren't those graphics done for an older version of Nethack, anyway? Or has someone kept the graphics upto-date also?

@Thematic

I'm not sure what do you mean. Are you talking about Falcon's Eye Nethack? The graphics shown in my screen shot is created by using the data and tools in current Nethack sources...sorry I don't know a lot about Nethack so I can't answer you question :(

Falcon's Eye: http://www.hut.fi/~jtpelto2/nhfeatures.html#SCREENSHOTS

About sound support in Angband:

Been very busy lately. I want to compile updated ToME soon and I will check if the old sound code can be used.

By the way, does sound work in Nethack? I'm afraid it's not producing any noise here.

@Mr_Capehill

Not Falcon's Eye, I merely recognized the top-down graphics from years ago - my brother prefered that over the font presentation - and thought to inquire, if it has been updated or indeed, required such. Without doing the obvious and consulting some changelog.

@kvinkunx

I have uploaded an updated version of ToME recently. It features that old sound code, which hopefully works with audio device redirection. I don't have a working AHI system currently with my BPPC so I'm not able to bring any AHI solution to this, unfortunately.

The old sound code worked with small modification. Apparently the format of config file changed a bit, so I had to touch the parser.

If that hack works, I'll send updated source codes to OS4Depot.

The included sound files are from old Angband sound archive.

ToME is also update recently to version 2.3.1 and this build uses newlib.

Other news:

CWMMoria has also been built with newlib and I cannot reproduce the corrupted highscore listing anymore.

I have AHI working and neither Nethack nor latest TOME do produce any sound (otherwise these work). Would a Snoopdos log help perhaps?

Maybe, but do you use NallePuh?

@Mr_Capehill

Okay, here it goes:

Tried with NallePuh now. Tome works perfectly including sound.

Nethack doesn't produce any sound even with NallePuh on.

Tried 0x001e0003 and 0x001e0004 modes with the latest AHI update from OS4depot, should it have any importance.

Nethack crashes repetitively on my machine after clicking LMB on the intro text (right after the chargen is done and before you can move your char) instead of pressing Enter.
Grim reaper crashlog here.

NetHack is frighteningly addictive! I can't go near my AmigaOne now with having to have 'one more go' which turns into hours. Please do NOT do anything to make this game even better

@Mr_Capehill

By any chance, do you have a sound.cfg file for *Angband WITH description what event is related to a short codename, ie. 'miss' stands for an event of missing in melee, etc.

And just to make sure, the ports accept IFF samples and nothing else, right?
