Software News   Software News : AmiModRadio - All of Aminet modules at your fingertips
   posted by tygre on 20-Jul-2015 3:42:27 (3487 reads)
Did you know that, as of today (2015/06/02), there are more than 20,000 packages in the mods directory on Aminet? Yes! That's more than 20,000 modules to play and enjoy! So, why not have a program that could automatically download one module at-a-time, extract it, and play it? This is the purpose of AmiModRadio...

Essentials
AmiModRadio is composed essentially of four parts:

- A small FTP client to access Aminet and download archives containing modules;
- A XAD client to unarchive the downloaded archives;
- A ARexx command-and-control system to gently ask players to play the module;
- A MUI interface to control the various parts of AmiModRadio, in particular to permanently saved desired modules as well as pause/play and skip modules.

Downloads
AmiModRadio is open source. Its source code and binaries are available on SourceForge and BitBucket ! Manual and other resources are available on its Web page. AmiModRadio binaries are available here:

- 2015/07/19, v0.7.

Sounds fun, your webpage and binary links seem to be dead though?

Sorry about that! Please try the following URLs and let me know:

- AmiModRadio via HTTP;
- AmiModRadio via HTTPS.

Web page of AmiModRadio, it is running on an Amiga '040 so it can timeout if your browser is too picky

@Mr_DBUG

Actually, the actual source code is only slightly dependent on AmigaOS APIs... The only two files really dependent are arexx.c (use of ARexx FindPort and other APIs) and mui.c/muicontrols.c (the to-be-implemented MUI interface)... Is there something similar to ARexx on Linux?

Cheers!

@lionstorm

I would believe so but, unfortunately, I don't have an AmigaNG to test it... if you do, I would gladly welcome any report :)

Thanks!

Sorry to read that it does not work on an AmigaNG... what was the problem? Could you send me a screenshot (or the content) of the Shell... going "up" there may be error messages that could help me find the source of the problem, thanks!

Hi Lionstorm!

The output seems right What is missing is a player running: please start either AmigaAmp, EaglePlayer, HippoPlayer, or MultiPLayer and then you'll be able to do "6" and enjoy some modules! Please let me know!

Cheers!

Hi all!

I have just released a new version of AmiModRadio, which now supports other sources of modules in addition to Aminet: it supports ftp.modland.com (because it was easy to implement, having FTP access). In the future, it will support local disks and HTTP sites, like modules.pl. It also uses the icon made by Retrofan (thanks again!)

Next milestone: implementing the MUI user-interface!

In the meantime, suggestions and bug reports are always welcome!

Cheers!
