Hardware News   Hardware News : New batch of BlackBOX 1200 towers
posted by DJS on 17-Aug-2017 2:04:51 (2500 reads)
The new batch of BlackBOX 1200 tower cases will be produced in the end of August.

New photos and Installation Guide of BlackBOX 1200 tower system have been published recently:

BlackBOX 1200 Installation Guide

All BlackBOX 1200 towers are equipped with black ATX power supply suitable for the most expanded Amiga 1200 systems. This new PSU is compatible with ATX 1.3 standard (with over twice bigger load of +5V rail than +3.3V one). It has four Molex plugs for EIDE devices and one plug for the floppy disk drive. Additional two FDD type plugs (for additional FDD or PATA-to-CF adapters) are enclosed in the BlackBOX accessories box.

Each BlackBOX 1200 is equipped with PC-KEY 1200 keyboard adapter supporting A3000, A4000 and PC PS/2 keyboards. PS/2 - DIN adapter is enclosed.

Tower LEDs system is configured to be controlled by the A1200 LED output.

Front panel black floppy drive fascia is compatible with all drives factory installed in the A1200 computers.

BlackBOX 1200 is equipped with fans system (with two selectable fan speeds), which takes care of cooling A1200 turbo card and hard drives.

BlackBOX 1200 tower cases are produced on preorders only. If you want one you have to place your preorder till 23 August.

Best regards,
ELBOX COMPUTER Team

Custom made small order production runs, with potentially few sales - always going to be expensive.

300 Euro's!

It's a lovely looking case, great specs but it's only an adapted PC style tower at the end of the day.

Yes, it will take a PCI backplane - I first thought it came with one!

I wish Elbox well, especially seeing as they have stuck with the Amiga for a good long time, but I'll pass on this, thanks.

Fred

Power Tower from ElBox here. Better than the pc duct tape thingie.

(Must care that the Zorro,PIV+Apollo060 keeps securely in place)

Really nice the new. Thought too a bit pricey. A few batch understood.

More than the A1200 itself. (A few new left)

One could build a supermachine with this if put some investment.

--- edit---

Very Good Guides. Get what You pay for.

My A4000D DIY tower is pain in the*ss to maintain.

I think this is the only current option to fix it:
http://eu-shop.elbox.com/en_GB/p/Mirage-4000-Pro/631

But it's expensive.
....
And it's discontinued.

News item posted on Aug. 17th, and time limit to pre-order is Aug. 23rd?

Less than a week to decide if people wanted one, is not exactly a lot of time. $300 is a lot of money to get a PC case and have the correct A1200 cut-outs punched into the backplane, plus a keyboard adapter and a couple of fans. Probably depends on how those cut-outs are being done.

I agree that low production custom hardware is always going to be expensive, but I'm not sure about this case deal being a reasonable deal.

@BOingbear

amigastore.eu has the tower in stock, according to their site.
