Announcement   Announcement : NCSCAUG OS4 Demo Report
posted by herewegoagain on 7-Dec-2003 1:36:58 (2586 reads)
I've put together a short review of our meeting today including a personal point of veiw on OS4.

The meeting was alot of fun, and it was great to see OS4 actually running on the AmigaOne and being able to try it out first hand. I've included a few pics on the website as well.

Nice report Herewegoagain .

One thing which I amazing with OS4 is how relatively old programs appear transformed, in this case Photogenics. It really does look like a modern app.

BTW, Tong would you know what videocard was used in the A1 running OS4?

I seriously cant wait to play with the GUI settings. The default look is good, but I dont think the white goes with the grey.. so I'll probably just change the white to a light shade of grey. Hehe, anyone from Hyperion reading this is probably thinking "but everyone was screaming for white/non-gray background colours!" .. hehe sorry. :)

-Edit- actually, looking at this screenshot http://amigaworld.net/images/features/grim1.png , the white looks good. I will have to play with the settings to fully make up my mind.

Nice report HWGA.

Desktops do seem to be getting more popular as of late.

Thanks for the report! I'm really itching to get a look at OS4 for myself now!

Yes, that definitely catches your eye. And everything looks so nice with the anti-aliased fonts, and the window gradients and new rounded menus. I'm looking forward to seeing it when the new icon system is in place.

As a matter of fact, I do....

Oh, you wanted me to tell you?
It was running a Voodoo3 3000 PCI in the 66MHz slot of the A1.

Thanks... I just realized I left out a couple of other things about the meeting, so added a small bit at the bottom for complete coverage of our meeting. :)

That case has just come out from Antec recently, it is the Overture, in the same LifeStyle line as the Sonata and Minuet case.

The A1 goes real well with it, although it is rather long/deep, so measure your desk space. It needed a minor reroute of the cable for the front USB connectors, since the header on the motherboard is so far at the rear. Also, on mine, the keyed pin on this USB header was in the wrong place, so check this before you install.
