Software News   Software News : JAmiga alpha 0.0.1 released
posted by Buzzy on 24-Jan-2004 18:42:32 (4168 reads)
Alpha 0.0.1 of JAmiga has been released on January 23, 2004. You can download it here

From the ReadMe:

This is the first ALPHA release of JAmiga. It should feature MUCH enhanced stability on most machines. However, there is a major drawback: JIT has been reduced to methods that do NOT leave at all which reduces the amount of JITable methods significantly.

Additionally, this is the first release that actually opens an AWT Frame (Window) with Intuition.
Opening a Window is about all the AWT stuff does currently, so don't throw any heavy GUI apps at it (actually, don't throw ANY GUI app at it :) )

Networking has been left out for stability reasons in this release. It will only be added when we manage to have it running stable on our machines...

Hopefully someday JAmiga will become so mature that it will be able to run AW.net's IRC client. (The only Java aplication that I use on a regular basis)

Keep up the good work people!

Works fine here on WinUAE 0.8.22 R5. TestFrame opens a window which is closed after a few seconds. Nice!

i got an email from the jamiga team , and hopefully we will figure out whats wrong here (on my setup) , i manged to get it running by disabling JIT with the -J0 paramter , but it doesnt do much , but dont get an sw failure so its atleast working in some way :)

i hope this project will become more useable in a few clicks (+a gui) ..

cheers

Let's see... I really feel like I have to spoil the fun today

Ram Disk:bin> JAmiga -j0 JITSpeedTest
Now starting timing
Call to JIT Function returned: 999000000
Took 4000 milliseconds
Ram Disk:bin> JAmiga JITSpeedTest
Now starting timing
Call to JIT Function returned: 999000000
Took 100 milliseconds
Ram Disk:bin>

Sorry could not resist! That was JIT on JIT btw...

TestFrame crashed with and without JIT unfortunately.

Heh, I only had an urgent feeling to indicate 060 is not state of the
art CPU anymore ;)

Btw 2nd run was done JIT enabled (JAmiga JITSpeedTest)... 100 ms VS
26000 ms is quite lot

Almost, here is correction:

You should sell your A1200 and go PPC.

A1-SE for example. I doubt you could run complex Java apps on 68k at
decent speed. Or humm... don't sell your A1200, it is quite nice
machine after all.
