So they will cost a little more, and maybe they miss some feature of the final version. Right?

Great news, but its Mini-ITX

I hope it'll be made clear to the purchasors that these boards don't have the slot for the optional IO card, and don't qualify for the earlybird offer!

These MicroA1 boards are not on sale to the general public I'm afraid.

We have had a limited number of evaluation/development units built for:

- dealers to demo to industrial customers (eg kiosk builders etc),

- major integrators themselves (eg the kiosk builders)

- application and driver software developers (eg the people who write the authoring tools for kiosk systems).

And before anyone misinterprets the above I'm using the term 'kiosk systems' to represent any suitable vertical market - and there are many.

If there is anyone at the North East show that can convince me that the fall in one of these catagories then they can buy a board there and then, or order one for subsequent delivery.

Only a few of these pre-production boards bave been made so their cost will obviously be significantly more expensive than the target price of the volume production boards. But we hope and believe that the software and commercial opportunities that can be opened up using them will allow us all to hit the decks running from a sales standpoint when the low* price volume production boards become available.

The currently available boards do not have the soldered-on memory nor the 'extended I/O' connector (an extension of the PCI bus) of the production boards, but our market research shows that many volume applications will not ever need these facilities. This is not Windows or even Linux, its OS4 we are talking about here. Does anyone on this list actually believe that a basic MicroA1 (with a Radeon 7x00 graphics chipset & 256MB) booting OS4 and applications off a flash card couldn't do an infinitely better job than all those expensive, very jerky, Windows driven 'multimedia' screens popping up in all our (UK) sub-postoffices at the moment? It is just these sort of areas where the volume market for the MicroA1 lies.

The upside is that Amiga users will be able to use the same low* cost hardware either as it stands, or with enhanced I/O (USB2.0, IEE1394, Gigabit ethernet, RAID) and/or up to 3 PCI slots.

(Incidently the cased units that we have had made will run of a single 12v power supply as well, so you could stick one in the car glove box - assuming that you wear big gloves of course).

If that doesn't suit you then just buy the AmigaOne-XE desktop sytem instead and choose your own peripherals.

These (A1XE's) will be on sale to the general public next weekend.

Cheers

Alan

I hope you add Serial-ATA to the enhanced I/O board... in Spain S-ATA hds now cost the same as normal parallel-ata ones...
