Software News   Software News : UPDATED! New version of Feelin
posted by Gofromiel on 22-Jul-2004 13:12:55 (2464 reads)
UPDATED Archive info to fix download.

Feelin 040718 is out !!

Feelin is a new object-oriented system (OOS) for the AmigaOS. It provides two things: a small, fast and powerful core shared library, offering everything needed to create a strong object-oriented environnement; and an extensible system to create and maintain graphical user interfaces.

I created Feelin, because I was fed up with others GUI toolkits available on AmigaOS. You may say "have you ever heard about MUI ?". Well, yes But, although MUI is a very attractive choice, it severely lacks of modern features and protection. MUI is not an object-oriented system on its own. Built on BOOPSI, it suffers from its limitations.

Give Feelin a try !!

Looks pretty funky, IMO! Will have to take a closer look when I'm at home...

Feelin : Dynamic IDs

Once upon a time, there were object-oriented systems. Some of them were amazing and beautiful, but they were all prisonners of their out-dated roots and their IDs. Yes, they were all using static IDs for their methods and attributes. Those IDs were fixed by some kind of god. He wasn't very nice because an ID set is set forever and can never change again. Thus, IDs were very sad, because they wanted to change and they wanted to be free so they can grow and have children without the need of a god.

On a beautiful day, while IDs where stuck in staticism, appeared Feelin. Feelin was different, totaly open to new ideas and concepts, walking freely among the things without any constrain and out-dated rotten roots.

IDs realised that Feelin was the true liberty. When they looked at Feelin they saw themself but finaly free to evolve, change, have children and maybe die in respect.

!!??!!

Sounds interesting. I'll give it a whirl on OS4 tonight.

The website says it was written in PhxAss meaning optimized 68k Machine language. I wouldn't go looking for any PowerPC ports anytime soon. Unless this works on it.

So we still don't have enough GUI toolkits, don't we?

Why not just take the best ???

I've just downloaded Feelin and will give it a try on my A1200. But it sound already great ! It looks like it have a technical advance on MUI...

Is it free (cost) & opensource ? (well... opensource is not important for me, as long as the project is a work in progress.)

Any chance to see it on OS4 - native !

Well ! I've just tried it, and it sound very promising ! I look like it's slower than MUI (not that much, in fact), but perhaps it's the price to pay for modern OO design... ?
