Miscellaneous News   Miscellaneous News : OS4 Icon Design competition by Haage&Partner
   posted by MikeB on 7-Aug-2004 18:29:15 (6369 reads)
The German Amiga portal amiga-news.de reports that Haage&Partner has started a competition for people designing AmigaOS4 system and application icon sets. The three most beautiful designs will receive a free copy of ArtEffect (German version?) for AmigaOS4.

Meanwhile Toaks has uploaded some new screenshots of his popular OS4 icon & skin set created by 'restore' to the AmigaOS.dk Screenshot Gallery: Screenshot1 Screenshot2 Screenshot3 (older one)

@Toaks

I've got a question. In one of your screenshots, you have an icon named "CA_ReqTools" and the icon looks similar to a requester look that I used to have under OS3.9 from a requester patching program. The name leads me to believe that whatever this refers to patches things to use Classact instead of the regular stuff. Can you shed some light on this? I tried looking for that specific name on Aminet and with Google, and neither one came up with anything.

More info would be appreciated.

Good news from H&P, looking forward to OS4 Art Effect. Toak's screenshots are fantastic, one of best looking desktops I've seen on any system .

@TOAKS

WOW! great mega cool looking iconsets.

Looks really PRO! Much like MAC OS X style and not like this Teletubby Windows XP style

I want these for my A1!

When and where will they be available?

Great.

Other great news is the forthcoming Art Effect

CA_ReqTools is just the version of the ReqTools prefs program which uses ClassAct.
The normal version (ReqTools) of the prefs program uses gadtools.library.

@Georg

It's been ages since I've actually installed ReqTools on it's own, so can't recall if that comes with it? I would assume so, since I can't seem to find it by itself anywhere.

@xaot

haha! Looks like you forgot to read the terms and conditions of the competition as devised by me 10 seconds ago:

Terms & Conditions

1 No employee of H & P may enter competition

2 No beta tester of OS4 may enter competition

3 No person with btter skills than Bodie_CI5 may enter competition

4 Xaot explicitly may NOT enter competition lest he undermines Bodie_CI5's capacity to win

No seriously, good luck to everyone.

Gotcha! The mixer icon image shows a Behringer DDX3216 (www.behringer.com/DDX3216) - the baby I ALMOST got for my studio

...and yes, I like the icons very much!

Regards,
Trixie

Well. I'm quite glad to see such a nice looking screenshot, but:

1 - I think that a patchwork of icons not self-made but just grabbed around (mainly from MacOS X from what I see) CAN'T be an official iconset

2 - in such a competion H&P MUST say that not self-made icons (= grabbed icons) will not be allowed

3 - we have to find a new style or a restyling of the glowicon set, not a reworked version of the Windows/MacOS/Linux set

Wrote this just to clarify the difference between people who draw icons and the ones that just cut&paste icons (I appreciate Toaks work anyway!)

Well now I stop here and start draw something... I've got until Octobert the 6 (but I'm not so sure: I don't understand a single word of german..)
Finger cross for my spare time...

I second that. I like Toaks' screenshots but the icons are too OSX-ish to become the default look of OS4.

Regards,
Trixie

And english rules/requirements would be nice. What about the icon format and legal standing of the icons?
