Software News   Software News : Freeware Advanced Audio (AAC) Decoder for OS4
posted by Turbolaban on 15-Oct-2004 20:43:20 (3316 reads)
I have uploaded an OS4 port of libfaad (Freeware Advanced Audio (AAC) Decoder). In addition to the library itself, the archive contains some small programs using the library. One is a simple audio player which can be used to play mp4 (m4a) files, like the ones created by iTunes.

The full source code for the library and all other parts are also included.

The archive can be found as audio/misc/faad_library.lha on os4depot.net.

Enjoy

Being able to reproduce one file type (m4a), this hardly qualifies as clone (full features/functions) of the original player.

Err... Not really. Just a library able to decode AAC audio, and a command line based player that can play the files. I intend to write a GUI based player, though.

hmmm... That would be cool. Will have to find some documentation on how to create datatypes. Can't promise anything. Of course, if somebody else wants to create a datatype, nothing can stop them

I dont know anything about AAC but do you plan to port more ?
I am thinking about FLAC, which would be cool to have, specially a player for it since the coder/decoder already exist for 68k on amiga soundforge.

I plan to start writing an audio player. Only for AAC to begin with, but should be extended to other formats when it is useable.
My main interest at the moment is a good AAC player since I have my entire music library in AAC format on my mac.

I also intend to look at libfaac, which is an encoder library for AAC. If it is as easy to port as the decoder, it shouldn't take long...

Great, thanks for your input.
Maybe one day I could convert my songs into FLAC and play them on my A1

@turbolaban

I think it is possible (since AOS3.9) to use an application as a datatype but I don't know the specifics on how to do that...

Thanks Turbolaban!
This is very essential for me if I am to come back to the Amiga
as I have copied most my 1000(-ish) CD's to AAC in iTunes.
(I know it could be copied to mp3 but this saves me that.)

Good / latest file support is what hopefully will be with OS4.
And this helps.

You're a star.
