Software News   Software News : New version of Blobwars 0.98.1 available
posted by Cyborg on 1-Dec-2004 13:51:36 (2173 reads)
A new version of Blobwars: Metal Blob Solid is available from os4depot.net.

Get the new version from here (and READ the Readme.txt).

NOTE: Because of internal structure changes old savegames are INCOMPATIBLE with this version! Please either start the game from scratch again or stay with version 0.96.2.

Additional note for that people who already screwed their savegames (some symptoms are, that sound isn't working anymore and the option screen is screwed): I'm sorry for any inconvenience, but it was a minor change in Blobwars with big impact on the savegames.. and as this was not mentioned in the official changelog explicitly, i simply overlooked it while updating the source code

I wrote a (terrible) quick&dirty program which should be able to recover much enough of the corrupted savegame to fix the options and sound problem. Though, the drawback: all your statistics will be screwed. You can get it here. And be sure to read the README.1st... it's *really* quick&dirty!

There seems to be problem in making music and sound work with the new BlobWars 0.98.1. Even that i copied the music and the save games over to the newest BlobWars directory, the game shows a message saying:

"Couldn't play sound at 22050Hz. Reason 1 (Mono) and 2 (Stereo) channels supported. Music and sound will be disabled".

Why in heck is this? I NEVER had a problem with music and sound in the BlobWars 0.96.2! Think there needs to be something done about that again...very fast!

Music is really a MUST-HAVE in such a game, as well as sound..

Maybe time to include these features again. Upload a new version, say 0.98.2.

Please do it as soon as possible. I'm sure everybody here agrees...;-(

@ Helgis

Nice that you love the game, but..

Seriously, if you had read the whole news story carefully, you'd have seen that old savegames are INCOMPATIBLE with the new version... well, i don't want to repeat the news item... just read it again.

Beside, please bear in mind that Blobwars is still in BETA status which the version numbering 0.xx is indicating.. up to v1.0 somy things may change and some things may vanish and other things may be added.. and be asured, i *make* as sure as possible that new versions will work flawlessly, but as it's like with all things in life.. they work in theory like in practice, but in practice they don't (/cite one of the Frieden Bros).. so in this case, i overlooked that issue with the savegames and couldn't warn you soon and loud enough.. sorry for that.. humans do make mistakes..

Hi Cyborg,

it's not your fault. The code was being cleaned up and something was changed.

It won't happen again

@Cyborg

The manual isn't readable on Amiga browsers

How to swith weapons?

You should add 4-way shot, for example if i shot pressing the down key, bob should shot under itself.

Ah! Grenades doesn't make a big esplosion, only a small one (bug?)
