Having repeated exposure to the original source (or a member thereof, as with Fleecy; or even an honest eyewitness) can be invaluable in maintaining a high level of accuracy in the general public impression regarding a situation, because that “original” can be refered back to as a means of keeping inaccuracies in check. They can also be used as a means of convincing others of the accuracy of a statement you have made, much like Paul, who reminded his readers that the majority of a group about which he had just written were still alive and available to be questioned regarding Paul's statement about them, the argument basically being, “If you don't believe me, they're still around, so you can ask them for yourself.” The mere availability is in itself quite valuable, and when we have that back, it should be properly valued and not abused.

@ikir

And you say I'm posting half truths?

"Via bugs, not articia bugs..." *groan* you really believe that when its known industrially that the articia s is bugged?

"OO is being ported to os4" err... by who? Are you crazy? You really believe this? Why because there is a mailing list? Lets *realize* something please.

Additionaly - if you decide on what computer hardware to buy becuase of your perception of a couple of users that is rather strange imo.

@Rogue

I really dont want to take the time to re-read those Q+A's and expose alot of the fleecyisms there. Sure, some of it was useful and true info, but you must agree alot of the other stuff was just fluff. I'm not the only one who feels this way either.

The point is I hope this talk with Garry is productive and I'm glad Kmos is finally communicating..

@ realize

Let's just say the VIA has more problems than the Articia S does, yet the VIA southbridge is being used by millions of people worldwide on a daily basis without ordinary people knowing about such issues.

With regard to the Articia S there needs to be SW cache coherency as is already supported by the current state of AmigaOS4 and is actually also required on the classics. For the full story with regard to the now fixed DMA issues, Stéphane Guillard is basicly the AmigaOS4 team's DMA guy. Read his *expert* explanation addressing the issue

The story with regard to Linux isn't much different as compared to the AmigaOS4 one, except for the fact that it's not the AmigaOS4 team's job to address this. Mai Logic only hired Hyperion to do the initial port and AmigaOS4 is their main concern.

Anyway Garry is not the right person to address such issues in any way, he isn't a developer nor is he a CTO.

My questions:

7. Is there any plan to release Amiga DE version for Linux PowerPC?

Probably hasn't changed much since Fleecy first answered this. If there is any Amiga DE version for Linux PowerPC it won't be until after AmigaDE is first integrated into AOS 4.x.

Why am I not surprised? It's so transparent - claim something, and when someone asks for a proof just say "I don't want to take the time to re-read those Q+A's".

Next time, please also safe yourself the time to slander people if you don't want to back up your claims.

I'm sorry but I'm going to take offense at that, it has just proved unequivicably to me, that you talk utter crap. We have a small team of volunteers working quite hard ont his in their spare time, yes there has been progress, we are also waiting for some progress on other projects, but we have had a couple of successes as well, and things are progressing nicely if slowly (which is understandable).

@realize and rogue

I have to say that i truly understand realize's stance on the matter. So many words with so little concrete substance.

It's all full of....

words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words, words

argggggggggggg.........no wonder realize can't face to dig out that stuff again, even though im quite certain he could find a number of things, which is.....shall we say questionable!!

And you know it rogue...

@Hondo:

What exactly is it that you want? Can`t you understand that A.inc has learnt from the things that happened in the past?

Being silent is better than announcing all sorts of things that may not come true!

Ahem... this is a news item about " Live! Q&A IRC session with Garry Hare (KMOS) 20 Mar 2005"

Not about the Articia, not about Fleecy, or any other ad hominems/sonsensical waffeling that has got nothing to do with the newsitem.

Now please people, try to stay reasonably on topic.

Thank you.

@ redrumloa

From the AmigaOS4 feature list:

Quote:
Planned and already partially implemented functionality:

Symmetric Multi-Processing (SMP): support for multiple CPU's.

So that's no secret and doesn't contradict with what was stated within the Q&A. It was also clearly stated that this is planned for the future, but first AmigaOS4 needs to be completed for single processor boards. That time has yet to come.

Why is there a need to proof things which everyone knows. Like the continuned answers to tons of questions regarding Amiga Incs OS 4 plans, despite of the agreement to sell AOS4 to Itec which had happened long ago.

Ok, this whole thing is highly dubious anyway. For example that lately it was said that ITec (and later KMos) only got AOS Version until 3.x. Despite the press releases which talked about all OS Versions including 4.x. So if I'm allowed to make a random wild conspiracy theory it's not unlikely that Fleecy (or anyone else) at that time did not know either that in x months (x < 12) it will haven been 12 months since they did that ITec deal ... time travels ... paradoxon ...

@ Georg

Why wasn't this an issue for Itec to worry about *if* this was an issue at all? Apparently Amiga Inc and the AmigaOS4 team had full authority on this matter. Now if it would have been a competitor making statements without any authority (which actually did happen!), *that* would IMO be another story.

If you drive in your brother's car and you state you plan to paint it red, why should anyone else care if your brother himself doesn't mind?

What I actually know is that a lot of people, including myself, are working hard on a project that we believe in. A lot of the questions in the Fleecy Q&A where directly related to that project, and where answered by Fleecy or by one of the dedicated team to the best of their knowledge.

Yes, some of that stuff that Fleecy said is FAR off into the future, a declaration of intent at best, a plan, an outline of what might be the future of AmigaOS.

I find it distasteful (mildly put) that people like Magnetic (and obviuosly you yourself) see the need to slander all these people's work when you yourselves have absolutely nothing to show but great big words, and mostly destructive words at that as well.

Just look at Mark's posting above, maybe you will see then what a pitiful whiner Magnetic (and plainly, you as well) are. The only "constructive" thread I ever remember from you was when you expressed your doubts about the name "Entertainment" in the company that I work for.

You are a group of people that are always whining and trying to verbally diminish other people's work.
