   posted by nicomen on 23-Mar-2005 20:27:14 (3241 reads)
With only 10 days left it is an honour to announce that Stefan Burström of Ibrowse fame and involved in AmigaOS 4 development will attend at AmiTron 2005.

Buström will fix AmigaOne boards for the price of 250 NOK. ( 30 USD). As always the fix happens at the owners own risk.

If you want to attend and still haven't sent us details please do so using the following email: mail (at) ami-tron.org. If you want to attend to the dinner after the venue, please use the same e-mail address to notify us so we can arrange seats.

See you there!

Great news for XE owners!

Stefan seems to be really knowledgeable guy! So I guess he won't
mess up your boards.

And I though he was "just" a 3rd party developer

Sorry, private joke... I bet Stefan gets it, though

Will he do it behind a black curtain? With armed guards there to prevent someone from seeing the SOOPER SEKRIT FIXOLOGY?

This is not to rain down on Stefan but just to get a clear understanding. The Amiga Repair Center in France are doing fixes too and my understanding is that if they screw it up you are still covered by warrenty. So if someone trigger happy makes a mistake you can still be sure you get refunded. Right? If I read this then I assume the one in France is the only one that offers that. Just to get the picture clear.

Good thing to see that you can have it fixed there also. (At the show)

GGS-Data in sweden does offer to give away the Eyetch document on how to fix the XE to their A1XE costumers. I kind of thought it was the same elsewhere?

Are you sure? They would have to sign the NDA from Eyetech and then just give it away. Maybe you got it wrong?

Their website says (swedish):

Quote:

Which translated into english would be something like:

"We would also like to give an offer to our AmigaOne XE customer to send you the information/documentation on how to make fixes. The documentation has been put together by Eyetech. This in case you for example are able to perform the modification close to where you live. We hope this may make it easier for those of you who wish to it this way."

I haven't asked for the documentation as I found it much easier (and probably not more expensive) to get a cheap SIL0680 IDE controller and USB hub anyway.

Hi,

Is he fixing both the USB & IDE problems?

It is my understanding the USB fix involves changing a series of surface mount capacitors for resistors.

Not sure what the IDE/network fix involves.

@AmiDog

First time I heard this. Looking good. I know a lot of people want to do it instead of a dealer.

@Yabba

Could you please go to ANN and explain a little about the fix as there's
a lot of FUD in the comments about the fix and DMA.

I tried to explain some but I maybe messed it it more

No use. It only results in more attacks. If a new thread gets started here that has the word DMA in it people post about it on Ann right away. Whatever.

My A1-XE G4 works great... In what way will this fix benefit me ?

I'm already using a Sil card and if I wanna use the usb I will most probably buy a hub & card reader anyway...

Is there something extra the fix helps with that I've missed ?

Well.. You could use the VIA IDE in UDMA mode together with USB trouble free
in the future if needed.
This would be good enough for me to fix anyway.

Lucky me I have the bug free µA1 *Crossing my fingers*
