I am happy to announce that Alex R (aka) IamSonic, has translated most of the site to german, with only a few pages left to be updated.

Also, new overview page and Latest Information pages have been added, plus background image has been enlarged.

Amiga Samba Idiots Guide You don't have to be an idiot to use it.

And in the same sentence:
- "this pages" => these
- "It is strongly suggest" => "it" and "suggested"

The word " Dautche" below the german flag should be "Deutsch" :)

btw: nice job :) maybe you should mention SWAT - it's a bit easier to do the config with it for the newbees.

Sorry will fix that this evening

I didn't mention swat on purpose, because that simple smb.conf file that I put up as a working example, gets ultered by swat without your consent and then all of a sudden you find your samba connection does not work.

Hi Mikey,

Thanks for the very useful tutorial, I wish I'd had it when I setup Samba!

Just thought I'd mention that there's a tutorial on setting up printing via Samba (both printing from the Amiga to a remote printer and printing to a printer connected to the Amiga) in Clubbed (the predecessor to Total Amiga) issue 8. This was written with OS3.9 but I think it should also work on OS4 (the only problem might be that it uses the CMD utility to redirect print data, and I can't remember if that's in OS4). Issue 8 is available as a free download from the Total Amiga site:

http://www.totalamiga.org/backissues3.html

If anyone fancies updating this for OS4 (I don't have the time ATM as I'm working on TA21) I can supply the raw text.

Robert

Rob, I wonder if my samba guide would be a good idea to include in TAM?

What do you think?

Hi Mikey,

Quote:

I usually try not to include things that are already publically available (on the web or elsewhere) in Total Amiga as I would rather include exclusive content. In particular I think that subscribers might feel "ripped off" if they find a major article in the magazine that they've already read.

One of the reasons we hadn't carried a samba set-up tutorial before is because the one on amigasamba.org is pretty good for OS 3.

Maybe we could think of a way of extending the tutorial for Total Amiga, or perhaps publish a companion piece similar to the printing one I mentioned earlier.

Let me know what you think,

Robert

It's february 2012 - and the german version of the OS 4 related guide is online again:

Amiga Samba Idiot's Guide (Deutsch)

For those who might have missed the re-publication of Mickey_C's original guide for AmigaOS 3.x and 4.x - thanks to Richard 'djrikki' Lake - this can be found here:

Amiga Samba Idiot's Guide

Happy dancing!
