Announcement   Announcement : Amiga Absence at CeBIT
posted by Bodie on 7-Mar-2003 0:46:37 (1830 reads)
The following has appeared on the Official AmigaOS Portal:

Mar 6, 2003 - Late last year, Amiga announced its intention to launch AmigaOS4.0 at the CeBIT show in Germany. Since then, the project has advanced into its final stages but unfortunately not to the point where we are ready to ship. We have thus decided not to attend the Cebit Germany show. Instead we are looking at other shows and opportunities in the near future to provide a suitable platform for the launch of the new Amiga.

We apologize to the commmunity for waiting until the last possible moment to make this announcement but despite heroic efforts by all concerned, even up to the last minute, circumstances have conspired to push completion beyond the deadline. We have regretfully decided that making CeBIT Germany the AmigaOS 4 launch platform is not a realistic option at present.

AmigaOS4.0 is coming. Beta-testing has been going on since last September, the Club Amiga Magazine is previewing many of the new features and AmigaOne integration is proceeding well. Amiga, Hyperion and Eyetech are 100% committed to getting the new platform out into the world and reintroducing the world to the pleasures of home computing.

It was pretty much obvious to me some weeks ago that OS4 would not be ready in time to debut here so this announcement comes as no suprise to me.

To be honest, if the OS isn't quite ready yet I'd rather they DIDN'T debut it - if other are to see the new AmigaOS for the first time then I want them to be impressed, I don't want them to see an OS in it's beta stage with half of the features disabled or not fully functioning.

I agree with Amiga's decision not to attend the show, even if I am dissapointed by it. At least the OS is in it's final stages of development, so we're not talking about THAT long to wait. There'll be other events, don't worry about it guys ;)

You guys definitely understand. We will deliver when the products are ready. Just because we are absent from CeBIT, does not mean anything more than the products are not ready for unveiling.

It's not about money or any other silliness talked about elsewhere. It's about product-readiness.

Yep, we're pretty used to delays now. I have no cash to buy one so it makes very little difference to me.

Keep at it guys - I'll still be here when it's ready!

It will be nice to see Amiga Inc. and KMOS attending Amiga shows at some point in the future.
