does it work on real amiga ?
I wonder because the extension of the file is .exe so probably another AIAB clone for WinUAE.
Why these guys think only in terms of winuae and not real amiga ? Is it that difficult to make a .zip archive instead of a M$ only .exe ??

Excuse my noobiness.

So this is sorta like a linux distro right....This can only be a good thing.
How does this compare to other distros out there?

When I bought Amiga Forever I have to say I was a little dissappointed with the default workbench and I really didn't feel like tweaking. And as it looked so disgusting I kind of lost interest. This really sounds like what I need. It all looks so modern.

The only problem is that I was going to start using a hardfile from here innoidea to learn Amiga programming, as was pasted in another thread about starting Amiga development.

Obviously I could just install the extra bits and pieces I need, but it would have been nice to include some sort of dev tools in the Amikit release too if only to inspire creativity.

Ummmm.... Limitation....No/low PNG support. How important is this?

Ok. Going back to my happy place now.
We have no weiners!!! Hmmmm. Old frozen weiners. Sniff...Smells alright.

Looking on the "Future" page it seems that they're already planning a version for actual Amigas. I guess that the majority of people with a fairly powerful classic Amiga have spent time installing the exact patches and software that they want, so a preconfigured environment with a lot of extras installed might not be so attractive to all of them...

Absolutely stunning - tremendous work!

I almost feel like I should send a donation myself!

As for the .exe format of the archive, have you chaps tried exctracting the installer using XAD or something similar?

Cheers,
James

Would Amikit support people with A1200 with just AGA as their form of graphics output? I am also wondering, I own right now a 68030 @ 50 Mhz with 64 Mb of RAM is that enough to run all the stuff AmiKit provides?

No.

This is a pre-configured setup for WinUAE. You run UAE along with this and it tweaks your vanilla hosted OS and installs all of the goodies listed. That's all. It isn't a separate OS or anything. Just a convenient configuration for UAE.

Of course i did:

1. UnArc tells me "Unknown Format"
2. XAD tells me "Unknown"
3. XFD tells me "Not Crunched/Linked"

It's one of those "hypermodern, hypernew" PeeCee-selfextractable s***,
so a for non-peecee users with E-UAE

I still don't know if they will support people with A1200 with just expansion boards but not towered amiga with video cards. Would they support peopele with AGA only as their form of graphics output?

AmiKit was not tested under E-UAE. I think it's not even worth of it because the emulation would be very slow without the JIT anyway...

With regards to compatibility with classic Amigas, check this out please:

AmiKit looks fantastic! Almost enough to make me run out and buy an inexpensive Windows laptop just to have a portable Amiga once and for all, but not quite.

I already spent my computer dollars this year on an Apple iBook. Now, what are the chances of getting a version of Amikit that runs on MacOS X?

In the meantime, I eagerly await the Amithlon version, too.

Great work (and nice website). My wife, who hates Amigas and my affinity towards them, melted when she saw AmiKit's dedication.

Got to say I'm very impressed with the look and feel of AmiKit!

I have been recently installing Amiga Forever 2005/WinUAE and my Windoze PC and Laptop and have spent the past week or so installing all my old Classic Amiga Software. I've got to say that AmiKit makes the Amiga Forever 2005 package look a litle dated. I will definately use this on my Laptop and have just made a donation to the author.

Thanks

TrevorDick
