Software News   Software News : BarsnPipes OS4 v. 0.50 beta released
posted by alfa on 20-Dec-2005 14:56:35 (3898 reads)
I want to inform you, that you can download and try the first beta-release of the new BarsnPipes for OS4 from my homepage at:
www.alfred-j-faust.de

After near 2 months of hard work, BarsnPipes OS4 is in a such stable state, that it can be tried out. But it is a Beta, don't expect too much ...

Many things where done up to now:

* MIDI-transmission is complete based on camd.library - new multiport MIDI-Tools are written - up to 10 MIDI-ports - 10x16 MIDI-channels - In and OUT
(drivers for:
- CREATIVE Soundblaster LIVE! series - emu10kx-soundchip
- CREATIVE Audigy 1&2
- TERRATEC Phase28 and ESI Juli@
- internal gameport (only MIDI-OUT)
(these all made by Davy Wentzler - many thanks)
- USB-MIDI
(for ALL USB-MIDI-Standard compatible USB-MIDI-devices/interfaces - especially USB-MIDI-Interfaces are mainly capable to manage the Multiport-system - these was possible by the excellent work of Lyle Hazelwood, which have made these camdusb-MIDI-drivers - MANY THANKS)

*Tools are now processes, that means that especially the DOS-functions now available from tools (file loading and saving)

*The Timer-heartbeat of this version is stable and reliable.

*All pics are now loaded via datatypes - so all formats, which supported by the datatypes are possible.
(NB.: Is there anyone outside, who has ImageFX running. At my machine it crashes by the well know WindowedCXG-problem. I've done all possible, but nothing had solved the problem.)

*MIDI-File(*.mid) loading and saving is now part of the main program.

* and more ... and of course all the porting stuff

Kindly
Alfred

This is fantastic news!

I'll have to dust off my old B&P manuals (they came in binders back then.. remember the binder era?) and hook up my old Roland Alpha Juno 2 to give it a go.

I wish I could test it right now but I'm chained to my cubicle awaiting another food pellet from the dispenser.

@alexw

I had this problem, you have to set the midi in and out tools manualy if you load a MIDI file then you must also add the tool to each track.

Hello Alex,
You must choose the "connection" at the MIDI-tool. This is only neccessary once for each port. If you have only 1 port (normal 16 channel MIDI) :

- install the MIDI-In1 and MIDI-Out1 Tools into the Toolbox.
- drag it to one track
- Choose from the menu. "Tool->Replicate to->All Tracks"
- Open the toolwindow (Click once, and after a short time once again)
- Click on the "Set Connection"-button
- Choose the name of your driver
- thats all

The MIDI-Tools are only reading the name of the driver (in CAMD called Cluster). They set the .out.portnumber by itself.
Example:
you open the MIDI-Out1 window and click "emu10kx.in.0", the clustername is set to "emu10kx.out.0". This is, because the camd internal counts from 0. The normal men counts from 1. Also the MIDI-XXX1 connects to "xxx.xxx.0"

The tool stores immediately the choosen clustername. During a new startup it reads this and sets automatical the connection.

Hopful this works.

Kindly
Alfred

Wow.. Wonderful news!
I can't wait until I get home from work to try it out.

Expect a full public release of the USB MIDI drivers by the end
of January.. there is a bit more to finish first.

Merry Christmas to all, and for all, Bars & Pipes!

Thanks Alfred,
Lyle

@alfa

Thank you so much! This is one of my favorite programs. I have it playing me christmas songs that I sequenced in 1994. After the holidays I will have to get me one of those USB-MIDI interfaces so I can have more channels. I am using the soundblaster live for my interface now, it's OK, but I have many midi synthesizers here to play.

I have ImageFX 4.5 running on OS 4 and it works with no problems. What version are you trying to use?

Wow..
I mean really WOW!

It works, it plays.. It "kicks it" Big Time.
Baby I'm Amazed.

When I copied my old A4000 drive over to my AOne,
I assumed that my dozens (hundreds?) of old B&P
files would never play again. I was wrong.

Big Thanks to Alfred..

Truly a BIG step in the right direction for
Amiga music.

Big thanks to Hyperion, too! You chose a great
person to sponsor.

Off to play some more.

LyleHaze

I quit using Amigas in 1998 and burned my B&P files to a CD-ROM. I thought maybe someday there would be something that could read them or convert them to a newer file format. I got my A1 and OS 4 and I figured a midi sequencer would come along that could load a ".song" file. It never even crossed my mind that B&P would come to OS 4 and read its own files. I too am amazed.
