Software News   Software News : New set of IDE/SATA drivers on os4depot
   posted by sg2 on 7-Mar-2006 12:35:01 (6053 reads)
Dear OS4 Update 4 user,

Please retrieve the ide_driverpack.zip file from os4depot and install it over your system partition (see the included readme file).

This driver set tentatively fixes :

- an interrupt handler problem (interrups on port >1 could be missed) with the SATA drivers

- the "strange pause" problem with sii0680

- the strange "WB drag & drop copy trashes files" problem observed by very few of you with a1ide

- a couple of very minor bugs in IDETool

This informal interim release has been considered opportunate since the OS4 components concerned are somehow critical.

Kind regards,
--
Stéphane Guillard

Cool one more thing to try out.

Anyway I don’t have room for SIL in my PC, so it’s nice to be able to use it whit my AmigaOne

Thx a lot!

But for me it comes 4 days too late (lost all my 20000 emails) see other thread!

Does this also cure the USB memory stick problem with WB COPY issue?

Thx.

If not then the CROSSDOS bug fix did not make it in to update 4 as pronounced, Need to check this next time I borrow a USB zip drive from some one I know.

I’m not experimenting whit this on my Nokia memory card

Great work thanks!

And the SATA controller as supplied by AmigaKit has been reviewed in issue 23 of Total Amiga which is currently at the printers

The pauses also appear with sii3112ide.device.
Will this new driver cure the pb?
Thanks for the release anyway!

Bye,

@NutsAboutAmiga

What do people insist on using CrossDos all the time??? All it does is destroy files! I friend told me once 10 years ago it was required when copying files from/to PC disks so I used it and it destroyed my files by messing around with stupid carriage-returns. I haven't used it since and never will. Not with floppys, not with HDs, not with USB sticks.

So before I install this, does it work, or make anything worse??

edited to add: Well, I've tried it and it all seems to be working fine, and my USB seems to be working well now. I don't know if the latter is releated or not. I'm on a µ using onboard IDE.

You are jumping to conclusions. The crossdosfs fixes are in update 4 and were working just fine when I closed the bugzilla report myself.

It is entirely possible there are new problems however. But if a copy works from AmigaShell and doesn't work from Workbench I seriously doubt it has anything to do with the filesystem.

Feel free to avoid it all you want but screaming about it in a web forum doesn't really help us work the bugs out...

So, what do you use for copying files from/to PC disks/USB sticks? The messing around with "stupid carriage-returns" can be shut off (and could be back when CrossDOS was strictly 3rd party).

One reason why people insist on using CrossDos all the time (especially in the context of OS4), is that is what is supplied with the OS.

@Deniil715:

And what makes do you think that 10 years old Crossdosfs is exactly the same buggy one as the included one in AmigaOS4 update4 ???
