Software News   Software News : Epistula Instant Messenger Update
   posted by Slash on 10-Mar-2006 19:01:08 (4839 reads)
I am pleased to announce that I've made available a new version of Epistula (50.14) and the MSN plugin (50.4) on my website; http://www.the-snakepit.co.uk.

This version should fix a lot of bugs, most important ones being the DSI errors when logging on and the re-written authentication code for MSN, allowing users who previously couldn't logon to MSN to now do so.

Any bug reports/comments welcome!

Kind Regards,
Daniel Allsopp

OK, this might be due me not being registered, thus i can not use the latest executeable. But I had more luck with MSN now, it connected for the first time, and all my contacts showed up as they should, BUT, when i write something to someone, Epistula says 'couldn't send message' ...?

This release isnt perfect, but slash is making big strides fixing bugs left right and centre! Wont be long before he gets my money.

I wish I could fix a minor palette problem here. I'm using a customised SIOAMI theme, and toolbar.mcc wants to use a very dark grey for its background.. theres no way to configure it in MUI prefs.

My thoughts exactly Jahc.

Thanks for the update Daniel. Any ideas on the problem of not being able to start a chat yet? I posted a list of my MUI version numbers in the other thread for you.

Hmm... Somehow I seemed to have missed this software earlier. So, now I am informed and will snatch it up and try it out. This should fill a void in my Amiga activities.

For all your hard work,

Does anyone know how to fix the colours of the buttons?

http://wookiechat.amigarevolution.com/pics/epistula_yuck_colours.png

I dont like the dark grey.. I've been fiddling with the palette, and theres nothing in MUI prefs for toolbar.mcc........ but without success so far.

Thanks for the update. It's geting better and better. Great job!!!

Before it would not connect with my non-hotmail account. Now it works perfectlly.

Now I only have one problem left. When reciving a new message; the text input field clears all text (also text that I am writing). This make's it impossible to write new messages.

But god job. Keep it up!

BTW: Can't get the Paypal to work.

@slash

Thanks for the update, I'm chatting on MSN using epistula at the moment!!

Only comment I'd make, a request I guess, is that online buddies be grouped seperately? Takes a while to find them at present.

Thanks for the update, keep up the good work!

Hope to see a 68K version at some point.

If I register as a 68K user will that make it come any sooner?

When i want to quit Epistula i get like in the earlier version
an requster saying: The current plugin task wont end.
I can choose wait longer but it gets the requester back again.
So i take quit anyway. Then i get the grim reaper.

"MSN" Instruction Storage Interrupt (redzone/Stackpointer)
I send the author the grimlog.

I dont like the darkgrey buttons either.
The settings and mui button could be better to have in
menu. Would be nice to be able to have shorter window size
in horizontal (height). With jabberwocky i can make the window
really small. With epistula i cant.

Have a look at the MUI settings (press the MUI button) ...

Then look at extern classes and "Toolbar"... I have it set too:

"Boarder Type: Off" and "Selection Boarder: Old"

Yay, here I am again, Saturday night (well Sunday morning) after two solid days drinking and answering the many queries on the latest Epistula release

Thanks for all the support, comments and words of wisdom everyone, I do appreciate it.

OK, where to start?

The easy one Paypal.

I've unfortunatly got no control over the paypal website, so sorry if you can't connect at the moment, there must be a problem with Paypal at the moment; I'm sure it will be sorted soon.

Thanks for pointing it out though.

@spotUP
I don't really understand your problem here. First, you say you can't use the latest executable, but in the same sentence you say that you can connect with MSN now? I don't understand... the new plugin will not work with the previous version of Epistula, yet you say you can connect? Eh? Enlighten me

@jahc
Yes, it's not perfect for everyone, true. But I'm afraid it works perfectly for me so as you rightly say, I'm trying to track down the last remaining bugs but it's quite hard when they're not producing crashes, but simple things that don't work.

I appreciate your support via registration though, very much appreciated.

With regards to your horrible colours (of which I agree) see the comment below

@All

Text Field Disappearing yes, guilty as charged... stupid error on my part. Can't believe it slipped through, but it will be fixed in the next version for registered users. Will provide a nice new "annoyance" for non-registered users

68k Support I'd love to, but I use quite a few OS4-only functions of DOS.lirary which will make a port a pain in the ####. Maybe when it's more or less finished for OS4.

I really do want to support the classic Amiga, as I don't really class these AmigaOnes as real Amigas (come on, they're not!) so this wil happen.

The current plugin task wont end This one is really starting to piss me off. I'd like to suggest to people who have this problem, if at all possible, to try Epistula on a brand new OS4 Update 4 system, with no personal updates etc. A "fresh" install. I'll get back to people on this one. Grrrrrr.

Toolbar Colours Yes, Toolbar.mcc really sucks. As does the code I've got to write to get it working. If you want it to look like I have (see screenshots), these are my settings:

General: Image Only
Image: Use ghosted image, Exact, Light Grid
Spacing: 20, -1, 1, 2
Border Type: Off
Selection Border: New, Show active on mouse hit
