hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : AmiZilla Project almost @ $10,000
posted by DiscreetFX on 16-Mar-2006 17:13:56 (5024 reads)
The AmiZilla contest is almost $10,000 US! Programmers and students are hard at work porting this application. To give them more incentive and to push the contest beyond $10K DiscreetFX will be giving away a free product to the donator that gets it over the $10,000 mark. The winner will be able to choose any DiscreetFX product they want for Amiga, Mac OS X or even TriCaster! Any DiscreetFX software product we offer will be available to the winner. The Amiga needs this browser to be successful and more mainstream. An OS without a robust modern browser is like a day without sunshine.

Best regards

DiscreetFX Team

Any idea when there is something usefull coming out like a beta? It seems like a lot of money but devide that with all the people working on it and there is not much for each person. I assume you got several teams all going for the money. Was there not a team from Russia?

the amizilla mailing list is almost silent, i guess they are too busy designing mugs and tee-shirts.
has anyone ever seen a screenshot of work in progress ? is the GTK-MUI wrapper complete ?

alright, i STFU

PS : KHTML browser will be out way before any amizilla thingie IMO.

i think $10000 is not much considering the size of our community and the long time the AmiZilla project has been running.

$50000 wouldbe more acceptable those things considered...

Still hope something comes out in the future, even if I am not to optimistic.

Everybody should help boost the bounty to a level where a developer team could actually see it being worth doing a concentrated effort.

Each time I go to donate, I get a page that informs me I will be billed $5 shipping, so I cancel.

Well, I do!

Seriously, I know what you mean. Not much we can do for now.
Personally I think we should set the G4 as the base level. Costs a bit more, but Altivec can do a lot of nice things, if properly used.

As far as I know only Eyetech has released G4 and no others have any "serious" plans to release G4 boards. Perhaps time for a poll to see which OS4 hardware will be released first?

So, where is this mysterious web site? Why is it not listed?

This is why I love to use my Amiga and be part of the Amigaverse!

Thank you Bill Panagouleas, the DiscreetFX Team, and everybody that has donated to this. I sometimes feel silly for being so involved "in love?" with the Amiga and then I see people that are even more passionate than me and I feel a little more normal.

Did we ever find out who the Netscape exec was? We need to thank him as well.

@busytech

We tested this shipping problem for you and have found no issues. We are using the direct paypal link from here.

If AmiZilla can be downloaded and certain sites like oko.fi -bank works I
will send an A500 extramemorycard with a clock+ON/OFF switch to the unlucky one! Take this true. Then if it beats IBrowse I have a spare '020-40 with addittional (8Megs) memory. If someone superseeds/ gets the standards like "must have " IE (compability wise) I will rip off my A1200 '060 (32M)turbocard for him. (Still holding tight on my A1...) ;=)

Well, talk is too much, action PLEASE. I do it nearly daily, meaning os4
tuning and some work stuff too but it really is pretty unstable for serious
stuff what the A1200 can do and I promised my turbocard. AAAAAARGH!

Mail here personally, I will get in contact and give the e-mail address IF You have a good browser for testing to me.

(4megs connection "only" but still internet)

I can't donate money sorry, it's just too expensive. I could give 10 euros
straight to hand but the banks take some and I don't and will not have a
VISA card with expences just for this.

Happy future and I hope that I can send at least the A500 expansion to maybe YOU?

Seriously, do you expect this to run on anything else than a 100+ MB PPC amiga???
Have you even tried Mozilla today?
To be honest, this money cannot ever be claimed since it is impossible to get Mozilla to run on a 68k equiped Amiga.
Sad but true.

Stefan
