Internet News   Internet News : New mirrors and files on Aminet
posted by elwood on 31-Mar-2006 10:27:36 (2070 reads)
Two new mirrors are up and running. These are uk.aminet.net and it.aminet.net, thanks to Pasquale Alfuso (it.aminet.net) and Christiaan Keet (uk.aminet.net). If you want to be an official mirror please apply to aminet@aminet.net.

We have stopped accepting files without a suffix. The reason is twofold, one there aren't more than one or two files out of 70.000 that don't have a suffix and two scripts and such are better fitted to tackle files with suffixes. We hope this won't affect you, but if it does don't hesitate in telling us.

The Fish disks are back: Fisk disk 1 - 999 can be found in misc/fish

Oh and btw. the revived Aminet has now been up for over a year \o/ ;)

The current maintainers of Aminet (and people agreeing to supply mirror resource) deserve a big for all their efforts.

Aminet has always been one of the Amiga's best resources. There was a dodgy period a little while back when we all wondered if it would ever come back to life again. Thanks to the efforts of some dedicated people it has, and is perhaps even better than it was.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

but new look looks pretty suck. it is funny of course to see old wb , but its suck. white/red colours was great and modern. any chance to add maybe by default white/red, and option for 'wb mode' ?

You can use a browser that doesn't support CSS, then the old one will show.

We will stick to this new one and make the non-css version like this too. This to avoid complaints and similar. Besides, we all love 1.3 no?

Love, but only as nostalgy i think, for everyday using blue background a bit bored. Also,i want to say, if someone will want to migrate to new amiga, and see aminet with 1.3 look, i think they said (but maybe not) 'my god, what it it ? new generation database?' :)

nicomen, it is not 1st aril joke ?:) Plz ! back old design by default, PLEASE. just read answers on amiga.org about new design, not only i am said that wb1.3 cheme is (sorry, but is true) is suck. Here is no problem to add options in top of page like 'want swith to wb1.3 mode?'.
becouse for me (and as i understand for many ppls too (thread on amiga.org)), it is give more problems with using over nostalgy thinks. or, if it very need it for you, maybe you know any other identical mirrors but with old design ? becouse old design was REALLY GOOD FOR EYES. With new design eyes is tired after some seconds. also font with new design is too small. for what reassons need this extremly changes ? Just add options for rare fanatics on top of page :)

ps: just look on any news site design, why it is white/black almost ? becouse it is very easy for eyes. aminet also can be called like 'software news' site, etc,etc .. back old scheme PLEASE :)
