hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : New CPU Modules: Estimated Availability June 19/2006
   posted by ackcontrls on 23-Apr-2006 16:30:37 (42058 reads)
ACK Software Controls, Inc. is pleased to announce the upcoming availability of two new AmigaOne XE CPU modules. The first CPU module will be equipped with a Freescale MC7448 CPU clocked at 1GHz. The 1GHz module will retail for $500.00 US Dollars. The second CPU module will be equipped with a Freescale MC7448 clocked at 1.7GHz will retail for $850.00 US Dollars. Both CPU modules will be eqipped with a high quality heatsink and fan to ensure quiet, reliable operation.

Prototype modules will be demonstrated May 22/2006. The location for this demonstration has yet to be determined. Due to the low volume nature of these products, emails indicating demand for either of the two units is greatly appreciated. Stay tuned for updates.

Sincerely,

Adam Kowalczyk

@Adam
I think it is a better strategy to use an older G4 CPU for the 1 Ghz version. So you can reach a better price.
The 7447 A is cheaper than the 7448 B and has not so much lower performance.

By using the same component, but different speed allows me to mix and match production without any concern. Even though the 7447A and 7448 are pin compatible there are some slight differences that I didn't want to have cause unexpected results. Similarly, the volumes that I'm looking at...there wasn't any real price advantage other than going to a lower speed 7447A in the 600 to 800MHz range....which I didn't see as an option as I figured people would want a bit more speed.

What about E-UAE and FPSE?

And it's not just the extra MHz, the 1MB of L2 cache in the 7448 versus 256K in the 7445 should really help emulators.

Cheers,

Great news, I'm sure this will be popular among quite a few AmigaOne owners. Not sure if I'll get one myself, though, I'd rather get an entirely new motherboard at this point. Hmm...it's odd. A year ago I would have really wanted that 1.7GHz module, but I would have struggled to afford it. Now I can easily afford it, but don't think I will buy it.

Well, maybe.

Hi,

Nice
1,7Ghz is a good start point for Power User [RayTracing/3D-Design/Video-Editing]
The price is high but in compare to the low quantity aceptable.

Now we need new MOBOs....
[and i like see a +2Ghz module ]

Yes!!!! Finally.. G4 in my µA1-C

Can't decide though.. I really want the 1.7Ghz version but it's REALLY expensive..
I don't know if it's worth the cost compared to how much I use my Amiga.
Will buy the 1GHz card for sure atleast..

@ackcontrls

What is the size of the CPU card?

I'd like to know if I'll have to buy a new a new case for my µA1-C board..
I'll probably will have to I have the Antec Aria!

HEHEY! Here is a happy A1 owner. One question, where do we use all the power?
It's good to know there is replacements. Now go and "overclock" the 800...

This is great!

I am really looking forward to a PV status update.

I know people have commented on the 'high' prices for these modules but I am actually impressed that ACK have managed these prices.

It bodes well for the PV!

If I still had my uA1 I would go for the 1.7GHz - no more than a high end Athlon.

@Colin_Camper

The high prices aren't surprising given the low quantity to be manufactured. Still, it does mean that I won't be able to afford the upgrade, even if I do manage to get a good price for my 800 MHz G4 module. My only hope would be if Eyetech really do have a batch or two of CPUless A1 boards in storage and put in a sizeable order for these new modules. That might drop the price down enough for me.

Still, this is great news for those with the cash to upgrade and for those with dead CPU modules.

Great news, good to see some new hardware for A1. At the time that these come out I´m sure many of us have saved up and can buy.

@Colin_Camper

Yes that's true.. But The price of the 1.7GHz version is about 200¤ less than what
I payed for my whole µA1-C.. Including a 750GX CPU card, memory and mainboard,
case harddrive, DVD-burner, cables, keyboard and mouse..
In other words it's not cheap

But then again I would have the fastest Amiga in the world

[not for Helgis]
And maybe I can make it run at 2GHz with some trimming

S'ok, Helgis MAY be able to post a response by the time these are available. We'll make sure to have him ask YOU how to make his 'pre-update A1-XE with Zami the faster EVAR!'

I did send the "order" to you already, but as I had some questions there, I'll ask some of them publicly as well.

- Could you make a dual CPU module as well in 1.7 GHz+? I think the AmigaOS is already supporting it. Or could it be possible to make the 1.7 GHz model with single CPU and additional socket for another for even more speed (the price is getting higher, I know...)
- What modifications are needed on the XE to get the best speed? Do I need faster memory, or some other tuning to the motherboard (jumpwires) than just setting the DIP switches?

Regards
