It's actually pretty neat. I picked up the PS2 demo & the playability has been kept in tact with the added extra of analogue control so you can run 360°. The fast paced passing is there & the character animation is slick. I especially like the slow mo replays. It's nice to see the goal keepers hand actually contact with the ball to parry it away.

Not sure how the PC version will compare playing on a keyboard (Without a 360° controller), hopefully it'll still have the original games helping hand in that area. I'd say give it a go, I'm looking forward to it.

Fuzion:

Why would you be using keyboard??? Gamepads for PC are ultracheap and plentiful I have four PC dedicated pads myself, and I'm not even that hardcore when it comes to gaming.

I had to have a chuckle at this little bit of information from the Read Me file...

Quote:
Sensible SOccer requires at least 256MB of RAM and a 1.4Ghz processor

...especially when the original played on 512Kb of RAM and a7Mhz processor

I haven't played this PC version yet, but somehow I doubt very much that it'll be a patch on the 7Mhz version.

OMG! I just can't wait for the download to finish. C'mon you stupid 25h kbps!!!

Well as I'm one of that "SWOS Witnesses" that is mentioned on wikipedia (member of a group that is organizing SWOS tournaments, even today), I know it will not be like the original, but I do excpect it to be quite fun.
Oh c'mon, download it already!!!

its coming out after they finish the mac, xb360, gamecube and psp versions as they have *much* bigger install bases.

also, os4 isnt for sale yet. just a small thing.

*edit*

in other words, its never coming out for those formats so thinking its coming our for os4 is incredibly naive of people.

Maybe a silly question, but looking at it [SS 2006]; why on Earth would you want it? Just fire up an old A600 or E-UAE on OS4 and play SWOS... perfection!

Goodness me, I've been looking forward to this for quite some time!

I grabbed the demo earlier, installed the updated DirectX, only to read that the minimum specs for the game to run include a 64mb gfx card. ;( This is perhaps the only modern game that I would ever consider playing, and I'm unable to run it on my little laptop...

Oh well, shou ga nai,
James

Well, tried it now, seems very promising! One tradition it is bound to keep up: the destruction of input devices. My poor Tetsun pad creaking under the strain already, I fear it will soon end up on the Shelf of Death with my old Amiga sticks. Oh dear. But it's worth it Four pads = four player simultanous action! Can't wait to try that out!

maybe people want to play it that *dont* have os4 and *dont* have an old amiga with SWOS or whatever at hand.

or it could just be a much updated version for new markets, that puts fun into football games again.

Now that I have played it I can honestly say that it can't come even close to SWOS.
SWOS is still the king of football games but this is a cute little game. I suppose that it plays a lot better with analog gamepad and when there is more human players involved.
I have to admit that it is very funny game. When the camera shows all players in the begining of the match it is hillarious.

Some of you might already know this but for those that might want to view some pictures and a few info on the game, go to the link below.

GameSpot - Sensible Soccer [PC]

I still play Sensible World of Soccer now and then with a friend on his A1200 and sometimes i even manage to win!

Honestly chaps, some of you are judging this title a little prematurely. Of course there are going to be comparisons with SWOS, but to claim that this updated game is inferior to the Amiga classic from simply playing a short five minute demo is terribly unfair.

SWOS required a number of updates before it reached near perfection, allowing players several years to learn the game physics and control engine.

Unfortunately, I have yet to play this modern-day incarnation, however I certainly would not pass judgement until playing the final review code after several months of hard practice! ;)

Cheers,
James

@jmbattle

Sorry, there is no contest. When I played the new demo I was left with the impression the while thing was a bad joke. First demos of the original Amiga SS were NOT crap.

I have tried the demo now 2 times on my 2GHz pc with a Radeon 8500.

First impression is that the game is easier and slower tempo compared to the original. I managed to win Argentina two times in a row even though the judge was a #### biased towards Argentina all the time.

Cell-shaded graphics is unique and animations are ok but there seems to be some price to pay. Here even a 800*600 mode is sluggish as hell, unplayable.

Sprinting button is a good idea and also the goalkeeper can be directed. Replays show offside situations nicely.

It looks like a nice arcade football. If they add network play, I probably buy this game.

EDIT: the demo didn't show the statistics screens, I wish it's included in the actual game.
EDIT2: ahem, ok, well the slowdown are gone when ticking off the checkbox in settings...it is actually pretty fast then.
