hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : New consignment of AmigaOnes soon available
   posted by ssolie on 17-Jul-2006 20:58:25 (15936 reads)
We recently received delivery of a small consignment of AmigaOne motherboards for testing prior to redistribution among all AmigaOne dealers worldwide.

Update 18 May 2006 Quantities are limited and it appears that the CPU modules (G4 1.1 GHz for the XE boards) will not be available before the end of June 2006.
We will, of course, need some time to test them and prepare the new configurations, but you will very shortly be able to order a reconditioned AmigaOne from your favourite dealer!

Warning: quantities will be limited.

Don’t forget to bookmark this page for the latest info.

Update 16 July 2006 Some µA1-Cs are already ready to go out to dealers. News of the G4 modules is expected some time next week. Those wishing to trade in their existing G3 800MHz modules should contact their local dealer for a possible trade-in (not all dealers may offer this).

News taken from Amont Informatique.

@thomas

Either that or its some refurbished boards maybe?
But yes , its still the old MAI boards and not troika or ack.

Amont's web page about this describes them as "reconditioned", so they are not "new".

We dont have a dealer in the UK now since Sven closed his doors
Wonder if AmigaKIT can fill the void.

Although it would be more convenient to have an Amiga dealer here, I can recommend Amont if you are looking to get an A1.

This is based on the service that I was given when I dealt with Rose in the past (When my A1 decided to fry it's cpu).

(Btw, I don't get commission )

@listat

From a post by @abalaban in October, 2005:
Quote:
I'm French and I noticed that the only french dealer filed in your combobox is "Amont Informatique" but you must know that Rose does not sell to any more to private individuals, she became wholesaler.

Source: http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=15516&forum=7

Note that Rose has requested people contact their dealers.
If this info has changed (Amont's wholesale/retail status), someone should point
this out, otherwise I see it as her current status.

What would be nice to know is how many of these boards there are. How many extra users will soon have A1s. They say that the quanities are limited so there won't be that many. However, a ballpark figure would be nice.

@Hans

We could guess that since these are refurbished, there could be no more than the number that were returned for refunds or traded in for upgrade or qualified for a replacement. How many were made total, and how many do we think were returned? How about we say there can be no more than 10% of the total ever made as a high-end guess... just for kicks.

@weirdami

"Refurbished" could also mean boards that had manufacturing defects and have since been fixed. They must have had at least a few dead-on-arrival boards that were never sold to customers.

@weirdami

That's a little better. Although I must say that you have great faith in thier manufacturing ability.

Based on what I heard from my dealer, the quantities are something around two or three boards per dealer, including some boards that are still missing CPU cards. These don't include OS4 yet. The dealers should get OS4 separately from another source.

New hardware? Excellent! Just one problem, though...the site that I ordered my A1 from in '03 hasn't updated in two years. And the other half of their website, Extreme-Computing.com, is no longer a real page.

So...great. New hardware, and my seller is kaput.

Well its not "new" anything. Its actually refurbs... probably boards that were repaired. What is the warranty on boards like this?

ps Its good that at least there are some sort of boards for ppl who couldnt get a hold of one, since its the ONLY way you can run OS4 right now. BTW will their Ever be a release for Powerup cards?
