Software News   Software News : ScummVM version 0.9.1 released (OS4 too )

Oct. 29th, 2006: ScummVM 0.9.1 "PalmOS revived" released
Posted by sev

We are pleased to announce the 0.9.1 ScummVM bugfix release.

There were lots of important bugfixes and small improvements. We are also glad that three additional platforms are now officially supported: Nintendo DS, GP2X and GP32. You can already download official DS and GP2X binaries, and the GP32 port will be available soon.

Some of the most significant bugfixes are:

o Many fixes for Humongous Entertainment games and better support for international versions of the games
o Improved detection of the FM-TOWNS version of Indy3
o Several fixes for The Feeble Files and more non-English versions are supported now
o Some parts of the Kyrandia engine were rewritten so the game needs less CPU power now, and thus works better on lower-end devices
o The PSP, PS2 and WinCE ports were greatly improved
o The PalmOS port is again up-to-date and features separate build for Tapwave Zodiac
o The WinCE port supports 2002 devices again

get it from http://www.scummvm.org/

Can someone please explain in just a few words what is ScummVM ?
I never used it but the name make me think that it's a Virtual Machine to run some Apps/Games ?

I might then install it on my GP2X...

Jerry

Taken from the ScummVM.org website
Quote:
ScummVM lets you run these adventures: Adventure Soft's Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2; Revolution's Beneath A Steel Sky, Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2; Flight of the Amazon Queen; Wyrmkeep's Inherit the Earth; Coktel Vision's Gobliiins; Westwood Studios' The Legend of Kyrandia and games based on LucasArts' SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) system. SCUMM is used for many games, including Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and more. Compatibility with supported games is continually improving

Although many Amiga versions of the games aren't suppported (yet) at least the
PeeCee versions are ... and they throw them away everywhere...

...ever played Monkey Island 1 in 256 colors?

I have ...Muwahhahhaahahaa

@Raziel,

Thanks.
Those game can also be played natively I believe (without ScummVM). What more do you get by playing them through ScummVM ? You said more colors... But is there anything else that ScummVM provides over "normal" version of the game ?

Jerry

Some of the games are pretty old any may not work on modern PCs even anymore. And the games can be played almost on any suitable platform now. There are also improved visuals thanks to filters effects, nice save game system, window and full screen modes, auto-saving and so on.
