Didn't I read about a list of deserving developers some time back?

Question: Will CubicIDE support OS4? What features I "lost" if I use the current version on OS4? Must I careful about something for CubicIDE on OS4? Assigns or similar?

Thanks in advance for reply

@ShInKurO

CubicIDE works very well under OS4 : I use it daily for all my programming stuffs and also my website editing (it contains an HTML mode). You won't lost anything using it under OS4. I bought my version something like 3 years ago also at xmas discount time and I must admit I never regreted it !
CubicIDE is special however, you should take some time to "learn" it but once you are used to it, then you'll never want to revert to something else IMHO it simply the most complete IDE currently available on AOS systems. BTW if you never tried it, you should find a free demo version on the official site that should give you a good idea (just I can only advise you to give it some time, don't be afraid of it's apparent complexity at first sight)

CubicIDE works flawlessly on OS4, and has all the features you could ever want for editing any kind of source code. There is no apparent slow down of any feature and I've yet to experience a crash at all while using Cubic, and that's on a constantly updated beta AmigaOS4.

I must admit that when I first tried Cubic, I despised it immensely, much like I despised Directory Opus Magellan when I first tried that, it was installed and un-installed at least five times before it stuck.

My distaste was mainly for three reasons; its initial look out of the box is pretty damn nasty due to the icons used in the tool bars, there’s this very weird and uncomfortable “Microsoft Windows” look and feel to the whole thing (Registry, Service Packs etc.) and lastly, I couldn’t use AA fonts, which I had become accustomed too since using OS4.

Now, all of these problems disappeared over time. The icons can be changed, or the toolbars switched off completely, the Microsoft bit can simply be ignored whilst doing what it does best; allow you to write your code and finally Dietmar really does his very best to please his customers by adding many requested features to each upgrade, one of those being AA fonts in a recent upgrade.

So, spend a bit of time configuring it to how you want it to look and work, because it will be possible some way or another. The amount of options in Cubic is huge and it’s a very well written and welcome application!

@dietmar

Is there any upgrade options for Studio AIX users?
I have not found any on the online shop.

Bye!

I have tried the free microgolded and it crashes a lot under OS4: at start-up, copy/paste etc. I've never reported it since it is discontinued, but I hope Cubic has fixes for that.

@DaveAE: microgolded is on sale and constantly updated (like yesterday). How did you get the idea that it is discontinued? Its source code base is identical with Cubic's latest GoldED. I'm not aware of any problems related to OS4.

@ShInKurO:

OS4 is supported to the extent possible without owning an A1: the OS4 SDK is integrated while available publicly, reported bugs are fixed, etc. It's not officially a supported platform. The only thing to be "careful" about is to fetch the OS4 SDK before installation because I have not been able to obtain permission to include it on CD.

Features that require ixemul library are not available under OS4, I'm not confident that the OS4 version of ixemul library is reliable. You may override the installation scipt's decision and install these components. At the moment that's the two 68k gcc and spell checking.

@Lazi: Not anymore, sorry.

Hmm.. odd, I thought I read it on your site, but apparently it's not, sorry.
However, I have constant and reproducable problems. I'll email you tonight with more specifics.

In the end I decided to give it a go now, too.
Hopefully I will create some useful stuff with it.

I am quite confident that no version of ixemul.library is reliable.

@dietmar

What are the features that require ixemul??
Thus CubicIDE does support OS4 API's sintax highlight?The QuickInfo function does work even with OS4 specific functions, OS4 sintax, ecc...?

Nice !

Just one problem the HTML does not seem to work in IBrowse.

It is OK with the HTML datatype and multiview and even AWeb, but IB just seems to show text between

as black. So this is no better than just cutting and pasting to IB.

I guess this is a problem with IB rather than Golded and I will report it to the IB mailing list but is there a way of getting around it in the meantime ?

Other than the fact my web browser messes it up that is a really nice idea

Bill.

Unfortunately IBrowse doesn't recognize color tags in a pre block (a bug). Additionally, it drops the monospaced font.

Has anyone managed to get the spelling checker working on OS4? If it can be made to work on OS4 will it work with html docs? I have the demo version but can't get the spelling checker working. I would only be using Cubic for html as I am not a programer and will buy it if I can get spelling on html. Where can the os4 version of ixemul.library be found? I tried os4depot.net, aminet, and google with no luck. Will older versions not work with os4? Thank you all!!!!

"Has anyone managed to get the spelling checker working on OS4?"

it is my same question, in addition to this: does spelling checker work witch OS4's API sintax?

Yes Spellchecking works very well under OS4, just download the ISpell version from OS4depot. Also you should get the affix files in order to rebuild the dictionnaries (the OS4 ISpell version can't use the same dictionnaries than the 68k one

@Dietmar

Seems business did well... At least beyond your expectations ! Felicitations

I hope this will help you keep interest in this development

However for the one still interested what does this mean : you won't take any new orders or just that you won't ship until next year but still accepting new orders ?
