Software News   Software News : IT'S DONE!
posted by Rogue on 24-Dec-2006 15:59:13 (138057 reads)
Leuven, Belgium, 24 December 2006.

Hyperion-entertainment is very pleased to announce the immediate availability (for registered AmigaOne customers) of Amiga OS 4.0, The Final Update.

Originally released in May of 2004, Amiga OS 4.0 (www.amigaos4.com) is the most stable, modern and feature-rich incarnation to date of the multi-media centric operating system launched by Commodore Business Machines (CBM) in 1985 with which it still retains a high degree of compatibility.

Amiga OS 4.0, The Final Update is the culmination of 5 years of development and takes the form of a stand-alone ISO image which contains a full installation of all Amiga OS 4.0 components.

A list of new features can be found here .

Availability of PowerPC hardware suitable for operation with Amiga OS 4.0 will be announced by third parties early 2007.

The Hyperion Entertainment management would like to take this opportunity to wish all our customers and supporters a pleasant holiday season!

@Rogue -

I haven't seen this specifically asked, but if you have time could you elaborate for us on the current plans for future 4.0+ or 4.x releases?

For example, if/when there are patches to 4.0, what will they be called?

For future versions such as "4.1", do you have any plans for this next release? I know there were a couple of things held back from 4.0, such as VM and AmigaInput. What about 3D support, etc...

Thanks

Note: 4.0 looks pretty good so far!

Maybe I missed it in this long thread, but did we get a final and crystal clear answer when OS4 was officially released?

Was it:

1) May 2004

or

2) December 2006

Apparently yes.

Obviously him does. Why does it bother you?

@Falemagn,

Why is it so important to (the both) of you ? Perhaps a clear (honest) reason would be as appreciated as you would appreciate the answer to your question.

AFAIK, Rogue and others feel they have given an answer they feel is sufficient and there's no reason to continue the topic.

I believe I count a wee bit more than just two people having asked that (and related) questions here.

Is there any reasons for which you deem that the answers given so far, on that subject, were not clear and honest?

Obviously the answer to that question was not given, I don't think we need to fool ourselves into thinking that that question was answered?

Do notice that I'm not asking that question yet again, I'm just defending the right that someone has in asking that question without someone else who is not the party entitled to answer coming in and saying "who cares?"

I believe I count a wee bit more than just two people having asked that (and related) questions here.

Pedantic counting, perhaps there are 5. Maybe 10, might be 100 for all I care, but there were 2 persons still asking or inquiring about the question. I truly fail to see why people are still going on about this ?

It doesn't really matter anymore, as the ones who can give the answer won't give it. It's asking for something that you know you'll never ever will get anyway. It only brings you "you're a troll" remarks.

Damn, should have kept away from this. Enough said. I suggest the topic to be dropped and the question forgotten.

Pedantic counting,

Sorry, but I find that highly offensive. 2 is not 5 and is not 10. Either you say the correct number or don't say it at all, because obviously a low number of inquiries implies that a low number of people care, which is not the case here.

Quote:

Who are these 2 persons? I count only one, and that's takemehomegrandma. I take it you've read my post in its entirety and have understood that I've not asked that question again, so the other one must not be me, is it?

Quote:

I truly fail to see why people are still going on about this ?

On the same vein, I truly fail to see why would you care about that? I mean, let takemhomegrandma ask his question, does it hurt you or Fransexy in any way? If he doesn't get an answer, I don't think he's going to ask that question yet again, and again, and again.

I believe he just asked it because he's not asked it before and because of all the fuss that any such questions generates among people like Fransexy which makes it hard for the real question to even stand out. It doesn't hurt asking a direct question for the last time, I suppose, does it?

Live and let live, people!

@Falemagn,

I never questioned TMHG now did I ? You questioned Framiga, and he just gave a answer to TMGH answer. (Yes, "who cares" IMHO qualifies as an answer, if the answer is adequate or not is something else)

I on the other hand wanted to know why you 2 wanted to know the answer, you have to drag in numbers and yes are pedantic about it and fail to answer a question yourself, something you seem to dislike yourself (not being answered to your question. You hint at having given the reason allready, but I'm not going to wade through this mess to find it if it's there.

On the same vein, I truly fail to see why would you care about that? I mean, let takemhomegrandma ask his question, does it hurt you or Fransexy in any way? If he doesn't get an answer, I don't think he's going to ask that question yet again, and again, and again.

See post nr 425: Perhaps a clear (honest) reason would be as appreciated as you would appreciate the answer to your question. Means that perhaps if Rogue or HyperionMP understands the motivation towards the question they may answer it.

Live and let live ? Good advice, why don't you take it yourself ? You have been going on about the questions even after it was obvious you wouldn't get the answer you wanted to have.

BTW, you defend TMHG rights to ask a question, but deny Framiga or me from asking one as well ??

Either I am blind, or somehow you think I and everyone else cannot read? Of course you did. You questioned him and questioned me, although I keep repeating that I'm not asking that question again.

"Who cares" is a question, not an answer. A question whose answer is at least "takemehomegrandma", given that he obviously cared.

If Framiga doesn't have the answer and doesn't care about it, why does he have to care about others asking it? And of course the same stands valid for you too.

Quote:

I on the other hand wanted to know why you 2 wanted to know the answer, you have to drag in numbers and yes are pedantic about it

Seer, with all due respect, but if you fail to be honest and transparent in these your posts don't take it up with me, it's not a problem I have. Again, if you gotta say numbers, say the true ones or don't say them at all. I don't want to repeat yet again why that has to be the case, I prefer to think that you give the posts you reply to the respect they deserve and read them at their face value.

I don't fail to answer to the question, I merely told you that the answer to that question is in this thread. The same way you don't want to bother going to wade through this mess I'm not going to give an answer that has already been given: I guess you can understand that doing so is quite bothersome, right?

Quote:

See post nr 425: Perhaps a clear (honest) reason would be as appreciated as you would appreciate the answer to your question. Means that perhaps if Rogue or HyperionMP understands the motivation towards the question they may answer it.

You imply that such explanation wasn't given already, but you also said that you don't want to wade through the thread to find it, so I beg your pardon: how do you know it wasn't given if you didn't even bother searching for it?

The explanation was given, if they don't want to answer it's up to them.

Quote:

Live and let live ? Good advice, why don't you take it yourself ? You have been going on about the questions even after it was obvious you wouldn't get the answer you wanted to have.

I've been going on about people like you and Framiga questioning my right to ask the question, not about the question itself. This is perfectly clear and I find it dishonest of you to make it look otherwise.

Wouldn't people like you and Framiga entered the discussion questioning other people's right to ask questions, this thread would have been way shorter and much more informative.

Quote:

BTW, you defend TMHG rights to ask a question, but deny Framiga or me from asking one as well ??

There are no questions that cannot be asked, I haven't denied anyone the right to ask any questions, please show me where and how I would have denied you the right to ask any questions, thank you.

Fabio... as i see it, all the above mentioned questions have got a reply already.

And about my "who cares" (related to the release version/date/schemes) it wasn't a question but only a mere personal POV.

How can you say that? The question that takemehomegrandma has hasked has not got an answer.

I understand you've given it as an answer, but "who cares" is a question, and in your case it was a rethorical one, implying that no one cares, which however is not true or else we wouldn't be here discussing the issue at all. I find that giving such asnswers as "who cares" is highly unpolite, at least, specially because it comes from someone who has no title to speak for the people who should know the answer to that question.

Shall I remind you that who started this was you? Wave your hands as much as you want, but if you had an argument you would have put it forward. Don't blame your lack of an argument on me. At least I have the decency of not claiming that others are "nitpicking" or being "pedantic" if I don't know how to answer.

you see where your problem is Fabio? you like to play (nitpick or whatever) even on a simple "hands on" statement turning it in some sort of new dance!

"Wave your hands as much as you want, but if you had an argument you would have put it forward."

"hands up" was only a simple "hands up" period! nothing more, nothing less. And its in this way you turn all you posts/replies in ####!

Either I am blind, or somehow you think I and everyone else cannot read? Of course you did. You questioned him and questioned me, although I keep repeating that I'm not asking that question again.

No, I never mentioned TMHG directly, I asked you because you replied to a question directed towards TMHG.

That then follows; Wouldn't people like you and Framiga entered the discussion questioning other people's right to ask questions, this thread would have been way shorter and much more informative.

Pot kettle black. You could have ignored Framiga instead of defending TMHG with a total off topic and unneeded defence of TMHG rights.

But thanks, next time I'll just moderate you for being off topic.

I asked a question to you about why it is important to the both of you in post 425. You drag in the numbers game in 426... I just comented that the numbers were not important. I could have replied with the numbers 6 or 15 or 23235 as they are irrelevant IMHO.

I don't fail to answer to the question, I merely told you that the answer to that question is in this thread. The same way you don't want to bother going to wade through this mess I'm not going to give an answer that has already been given: I guess you can understand that doing so is quite bothersome, right?

So, now you know how Rogue feels with having to repeat the same again and again and again.

You imply that such explanation wasn't given already, but you also said that you don't want to wade through the thread to find it, so I beg your pardon: how do you know it wasn't given if you didn't even bother searching for it?

Ok, let's say a better explanation then. I did read this entire thread, and might have missed something but I never saw a good enough reason to answer the question any further. IIRC the answer was given. If it was good enough for you is something else.

AFAIK it's the first time I acted upon this question case right ? Again, pot kettle black, this thread could have been a lot shorter if you didn't ask more then once and ignored the "why do you ask posts" and didn't "defend" TMHG rights, which IMHO is just an excuse or a way to keep discussing a dead topic.

There are no questions that cannot be asked, I haven't denied anyone the right to ask any questions, please show me where and how I would have denied you the right to ask any questions, thank you.

Post 424. Apperently you are good at reading into whatever you want in other peoples post but if the shoe is on the other foot you get pedantic about wording. You replied in the same style Framiga replied to TMHG... If you believe pedantic is a bad word then sorry for that, I don't think it is.

You sometimes wonder why people label you as a troll. I don't see you as such, but as a side note, you're nitpicking at words and IMHO pot kettle black attitude you seem to create can surely been seen as trolling.

I suggest we leave it at this, but feel free to comment at the above if you feel you must. (No need to do it in PM tho)

@Seer

I'll leave it at that because it's obvious that we're not going anywhere, although most of what you said would deserve a "corrective" answer.
