Software News   Software News : WW2 V3.3 with Updated Graphics
posted by ssolie on 7-May-2007 19:21:04 (2552 reads)
WW2 has been updated with many GUI changes and some updated graphics thanks to Ken Lester!

Grab it from OS4Depot and give it a try.

Major Changes:
- GUI now defaults to moving one unit at a time
- GUI introduced a new "move wheel" which is used to change the size of a move
- Fixed several GUI rendering glitches
- Fixed several bridged move rule violations
- Changed to use Deja Vu typefaces
- Changed to GUI to display overflow units differently
- Removed algorithmic placement of units on gamespaces
- Exported several data sets from internal to XML-based files
- Changed GUI prefs file from IFF to XML
- Replaced most bitmapped graphics with new graphics by Kenneth Lester

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

I had a quick play of this the other night, and all I can say is that the changes really add to the game. Not only do the units look more defined, but the move wheel is an inspired addition.

However, I'm still not altogether sure how to move units onto transports. I've managed to use a transport to move troops from Japan to Manchuria, but have been unable to move troops onto transports off the US. Which phase are transports supposed to be boarded in?

I've also been playing a lot of HOI2 on my Powerbook.

The new gfx for WW2 look superb - excellent work! I will have to download and have a play.

However, I'm still not altogether sure how to move units onto transports.

Transports are allowed to move during the Combat Movement and Non-Combat Movement phases according to the rules.

You select the transport and then load units which are in adjacent game spaces by clicking on them. You can load a unit at any time during the transport move. Only infantry, armor and aa-guns can be loaded onto transports.

I'll be adding some more user-friendly features to make this kind of thing more obvious. Thanks for the feedback!

No worries! You'll never know about these things unless you're told!

On another note, I've noticed sometimes with submarine attacks on shipping that even though I've selected the set number of casaulties caused by the attackers, I get a message telling me that I haven't selected enough. Deselecting the hit units and reselecting sorts this though.

Submarines can only hit ships. Perhaps you had some aircraft in your defending party?

If not, please email me the details of what units were present on both sides so I can try to hunt down the problem. My email is in the guide file, etc.

Could have - I'll email you if it happens again.
