Software News   Software News : Gimp 2.2.13 alpha for Cygnix (AmigaOS 4) released
posted by CygnusEd on 18-May-2007 12:21:11 (2548 reads)
An alpha release of Gimp 2.2.13 is now available on OS4-depot.

Yes, this is another alpha release of Gimp. After publishing the last alpha
of Gimp 1.2.5, I didn't want to release Gimp 2 in an unfinished condition. But
I got a lot of requests from people, who liked to work with it, although the
plugins are missing. So I decided to give the other users access to this pro-
gram.

Thanks Edgar!

Your work is invaluable!

When do you think we'll be able to use the plugins?

Do you have some other goodies in your pockets?

Thank you very much again!

I suppose you still can't load/save JPGs and GIFs?

hi there Tuxedo:)

I have to disagree - gimp is still VERY usefull, even if it is only able to save XCF-files. You are still able to draw, with full use of layers :)

I have used most gfx-programs avaiable on amiga, and i believe gimp is by far the most advanced when it comes to drawing/making art.

thanks for sharing this, even though plugin support not there yet, it's still in my eye a great addition to the os4 platform!

Really great ! Thank's Edgar, i'll try it as soon as i'll get home. It's certainly a good occasion to try the Gimp.

Certainly a good app to use until we have something better on Amiga (i.e. fully using the OS features), that will blow the 2D computer graphics market... Mwhhahaaaahahahaa!!!

Edit

Btw, let me guess what's next on your port list... a very hot animal that lives in forest !?

I've used GIMP in linux and just discovered GIMP Portable. That can be used from a USB drive and even from a HD (Windows system).

until plugins are made you can always load your XCF files into the windows or linux version to save out in other formats.

I like GIMP a great deal and I'm glad to see it available for OS4.

btw, since we are on this, one thing I noticed about the windows version of GIMP is that there doesn't appear to be a plugin to load IFF files. my linux version could use "gimpilbm" just fine but I have never been able to find anything for the windows GIMP.

And, yes, I've asked about this in GIMP forums.

This is just an FYI. I'm not expecting a solution.
