Announcement   Announcement : Amiwest07 update#5
   posted by Anonymous on 10-Oct-2007 22:37:44 (4112 reads)
Hello,
MIWEST INFORMATION RELEASE # 5

This is the fifth information release for AmiWest 2007, the Amiga show
in the
Western United States. We're in the capital of California, the world's
fifth largest "nation," and presenting the 10th version of AmiWest October
20-21, 2007. Please go to http://sacc.org/amiwest for the latest
information.

BILL BORSARI TO WEBCAST AMIWEST 2007

We've always been excited to have Bill Borsari and his UGN team webcasting
our show. There are a few new things in the webcast this year, so I'll let
him explain. Here is his message, just received a few days ago.

"UGN to webcast Amiwest 2007

Hello friends and fellow Amigans. I’m happy to announce that the UGN will
again be webcasting the AmiWest 2007 show on October 20th and 21st.

We are especially excited this year as it marks the 10th year anniversary
of Amiwest and will be the 9th consecutive year we will have brought Amiga
users all over the world the Amiwest experience. Like in years past we
will offer a webcam, dual audio streams and a video stream.

The broadcast will begin at 6:45 PM PST on Saturday October 20th with
coverage of the banquet and continue at 10 AM Sunday October 21st with
coverage of the show floor till the end of the show.

Two new things for this year:
1)We will be working with the Amiga Round Table (www.amigaz.org) to help
out with interviews and hosting of portions of the audio after the event.

2)We are also inviting Amiga Users from around the world to participate in
a new way for this show. Since it is the 10th anniversary of the show we’d
like to invite folks to create a show audio message, about a minute, with
their favorite Amiwest or Amiga Memory to be broadcast during the show on
Sunday both to the show floor and over the internet. This way everyone can
have a chance to share with all of us at the show a little something
special. Please be sure to say your name and location with your message
and while I’d prefer English it is not a requirement. Formats accepted
will be .mp3 or .ogg, check our website for additional details.

Finally since children may be listening to the broadcast and present at the
show, please use appropriate language. Once you’ve created your message
just email it to amigamemories@gmail.com, be sure to tune in Sunday to hear
your memory played on the air.

For the latest news and information how to tune in and participate please
visit the UGN home page at ugn.amiga.org. Don’t forget to thank our
partners too! www.sacc.org www.amiga.org www.amigaworld.net www.amigaz.org
www.novadesign.com

Sincerely,
Bill “tekmage” Borsari and the UGN team"

You won't want to miss seeing Bill in action along with the Amiga Round
Table. ===============================================================

Is Amiga Inc invited ?
This would be a great opportunity to start hyping OS5
It's 4th quarter already ,right ?

@Manu

Naah, Amiga Inc has their own show, which is even better than E3 and Mac World combined!

Oh dear...not that again...Bill McEwen:

we also have another announcement with our other partner that I mentioned in the 20 questions and this is a high-end desktop product. There will be a prototype and more information available at the AmiWest show in sacremento california on the 23rd.

Erm...
(1)It was 25 questions and answers, not 20
(2)There, of course, was no prototype at the AmiWest show
(3)The show was, of course, not on the 23rd.

Not bad for an AI announcement really. Only 3 errors in the space of a sentence and 1/2. If you argue that showing a prototype and merely providing "info" are 2 different things, then make that 4 errors.

Sorry, but how many times do I have to repeat that communications is dreadful?

@number6
Bill McEwen canceled at the last minute due to a personal family issue which Carl Sassenrath confirmed with Mr. McEwen on the phone at the show while some of us stood there and witnessed.

Whether each of us believes this to be true or not is a personal decision but it does not change the facts as they are known today as to why that prototype, etc. did not happen last year.

@ssolie

I gather this can only mean that Bill had intended to bring the prototype?

Well, at least a high end prototype WAS there, eh?

From your show Amiwest 2006 show report:
Quote:
After some time a few of us continued discussions in the AMUC/Troika/Hyperion hotel room. Warren worked on the Panda board while I made sure my MicroA1 was still alive. We all took a quick look at AmigaOS 4.0 on the MicroA1 while it was up and running. After some assembly concerns, Warren and I concluded it was not safe to power up the Panda in such an environment. I decided to scrap the idea of showing it running Linux at the show. I'd much rather have a working board for testing when I get home now that I am a part of the Troika testing team. Besides, it was only Linux and not OS4. Carl really did like the look of that Panda board with all those I/O options and I think he would even have purchased one right then and there if he could. Sadly, I had to explain the current state of things as best I could. This would become a common problem with the Panda board at the show the next day--people genuinely wanted to buy it but couldn't.

Fascinating that he said:
Quote:
I will say that Troika is not one of them

when asked about companies/boards, yet Troika shows a high end prototype at Amiwest 2006. Strangely in the YEAR following we get NO explanation where HIS own prototype is/was. I don't see how something that either did or did not happen to prevent his appearance answers why there was no followup for a year on this.

I seriously thought about attending, but with no hardware, no official vendors, I decided to say to heck with it, and instead I'm going to Salt Lake City that weekend to see Meat Katie and Rabbit in the Moon.

We are attending.

The point I was trying to make was that as far as we know the Amiga Inc. prototype was not at the show because Bill McEwen had a family emergency to attend to. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Hey!! That's not true!!

Like I said, I had the money in hand and had planned to go, but with no hardware or OS to buy, no one from hyperion attending, no one from Amiga attending, no one from the SAM team attending, I figured it would be kind of.. well...

boring.

@amikit

No offense, I meant no one involved in OS4 hardware or the OS itself, sorry.

@Legion

I'll be going as I do every year just to support the show. I fully understand why you & others don't feel the urge to attend this year, enjoy your trip to Salt Lake City & the show.
