@Rogue:

Heh. Occasionally, it is important to remember the words of Mark Twain: "Never argue with a fool; people might not know the difference."

I suppose there will be an appropriate press release on the web site, but honestly, who (besides you) cares?

In all fairness I'd say that a lot of people care. In this day, with court case and all, making an official press-release could be seen as the only official announcement. That would also instantly remove a lot of the speculations going on.

Flame/Attacks: Do not flame! Flaming refers to derogatory, abusive, threatening, sarcastic, rude, or otherwise mean-spirited messages directed at members/users. Be cautious when using sarcasm and humour. Without facial expressions and tone of voice, they do not translate easily over the Internet in posts and may be perceived as flaming. Report the flame posts immediately to an Amigaworld Team Member so that the situation can be dealt with immediately. A warning may be issued depending on the severity of flame/attacks.

Troll: Trolls show no respect for other people's opinions and deliberately crafts messages to provoke others with the intention of wasting their time and energy or just to cause anger and confrontations. There is no point in arguing with them; their minds are made up. Ignore them, and report the posts immediately to an Amigaworld Team Member. Repeat offenders may incur an instant banned.

Site Netiquette: We share one common ground, we are all Amiga users! Respect other opinions, even though you may not agree. Everyone is entitled to their say, but please do so in a courteous manner. Off-topic posts will be moved to the proper forum, and further action may be taken against repeat offenders.

It's easy to flame someone if you disagree, but remember, that type of behaviour is strictly prohibited. We come from different locations, we are a mix of ages, and our backgrounds vary. Take that into consideration before you click the post button. A moment of thought is better than hours of grief. The general rule of thumb is treat others as you would like to be treated.

Requests from our staff: At any time, if a moderator or administrator makes a request of a user, that user is expected to follow the instructions. We rarely, if ever, challenge our users to do something (usually this has to do with an inappropriate avatar or some sort of aberrant behaviour). However, when it does happen, we expect it to be followed; participate in this site, and you participate in it as a privilege, not a right. You may always PM an administrator or the webmaster to ask questions or file a complaint. However, I place great faith and trust in my staff to do the right thing. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Enough. You've been asked multiple times to behave yourself, stop the name calling, etc, and have disregarded this. Do NOT bother posting in this news item again, or you will immediately be restricted. Enough is enough.

I don't see any problem with a company being represented by someone other than the company's CEO at a computer show. If Hyperion asks me to make an official announcement at a local Amiga show, I would do it just the same, and I would think that those who make consipiracy theories out of this really need to see a doctor...

@glittering

You can take this as a formal request to behave in a respectful and mature manner, else we'll be forced to take action. You are entitled to your opinion, how you present it is another matter.

Why would he give Hyperion a free ride? Hyperion are just as bad as Amiga Inc. I can understand that most here are desperate for *anything* new but it would bother me to give money to a shady outfit like Hyperion.

edit by wegster - speculation on the court case, or motives, does not belong in this news item. Take it elsewhere, or start yet another 'legal thread,' and manage to behave yourself.

@Rogue

Yes is the software done? Or is there more work to be done, which is what is requiring it not to be able to be released until late next month? If the software is done I think it would be easier to treat the 11/30 date as more reliable if its down to merely Hyperion shipping whats already complete.

If you don't believe in the honesty or reliability of either Amiga Inc nor Hyperion, what are you doing here? You do not sound interested in OS4, or willing to purchase it from a "shady outfit".

edit: I mean, while I doubt that Bernie is interested in buying OS4 either, at least he has some (somewhat overly picky) insights in these matters - but you seem to *only* want to make non-constructive criticisms of people/companies.

@Rogue who said Quote:
"We"? It's not like I believe you had any interest in either the news item or the product, I rather believe that your only reason for posting at all is urinating up someone's leg.

I'm sure that Bernie does have at least some abstract interest in OS4, given his past involvement with both Amiga Inc & (making a potential Next Gen) Amiga OS (product).

And he has a very good point - until the news item appears on Hyperion's web page, it would be quite easy for a Hyperion lawyer to claim that this 3rd-hand announcement of OS4 for Classic was unofficial (and wrong). Which given the court case so far, is not that far fetched.

And the reason why *others* might be interested in this legal POV are that this would indicate that OS4 on the 30th Nov is only a remote possibility, rather than a strong likely-hood.

(The fact that you edit the Hyperion web site has very little to do with it, from a legal perspective IMHO.)

Oh, Excellent news!

Even though I have an Micro-A1 I will also buy a copy of this.
I wonder what 'Manual' means, if it's a small leaflet (2-4 pages)
like was the case with OS3.5 and OS3.9, or maybe a small
reference manual such as the one that comes with, for example,
Windows XP, with perhaps 20-40 pages...

No idea about prism2.device. Don't know why 3c589.device doesn't work, but while it does work with OS3.x, it does not with OS4, atleast not on my A1200.

I wondered when someone (yet again) would use the heavily repeated "what are you doing here" comment.

I am an amiga fan not a (insert amiga company name) fan. If something looks iffy i will say so, not do the usual "turn a blind eye" and dismiss facts just because you don't want to rock the boat. The community has no backbone and the companies can do what the hell they want.

Anyway back to the unanswered question,

If you have nothing to hide hyperion, why have you made no official announcement?

The problem is, what you write are not facts, but your opinion, and you try to present them as facts, in quite a rude way, and suggest that those with a different opinion are "turning a blind eye". This is why you got a warning from the moderator.

Quote:

If you actually read what Rogue wrote, he was asked *officially* by Hyperion management to get an announcement made at AmiWest, and one of the OS4 betatesters who attended AmiWest, had the privilige of doing this. The announcement is official. Hyperion is as you can imagine very busy getting it done by the announced deadline, and I'm sure they'll get around to putting the news up onto ther website soon enough.
