No thanks. For comparing apples to apples I would have to remove my SCSI-drives and install OS4/MOS on dog-slow IDE. That would only prove that MOS performance is equally poor like OS4 when using IDE instead of the much faster and less CPU-demanding SCSI device. Sorry, I got better things to do.

I completely understand your frustration and certainly don't see it as petty nit picking.

@Others

While the Elbox Fast ATA is supported and theoretically offers more speed than the Blizzard SCSI it lacks DMA capability.
Also most user who have invested in a SCSI setup will not want to ditch it and spend more money, if you're using a desktop case and external drives you could be looking at an extra £200 before you get started.

I recommend to hatschi and others who find themselves in the same position, to register interest with with ACube and say that you will comit to buying OS4 once SCSI support is added for Blizzard users.

@hatschi: no the builtin idecontroller is no fun at all, but hopefully they release drivers for the SCSI-interface on BPPC later.

Hyperion has now, on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning (depending where you are) made a clear step in the ongoing saga of OS4. They have now issued a clear challenge, to which other parties may or may not respond --- either option having clear implications. One way or another, this step is likely to hurry along a resolution of the current fiasco surrounding OS4.

Between Saturday night/Sunday morning and now, the situation was much less clear. No challenge had really been issued, leaving the other partiesd in limbo, and making the implications of any non-reaction equally as fuzzy and undefined. The scene was set for a escalation of the existing fiasco.

So I asked for clarification. You attacked me. I explained my reasons for asking for clarification. You went on a rampage. More members attacked me. I explained my reasons in more detail. More attacks happened. Yo stepped in and drew a line. One person, and one person only dropped out of the discussion at that line --- and that person was most decidedly not you. Nor did you even have the courtesy to realise that "your opponent" actually followed the moderator's request, and thus to stop attacking him....

Unfortunately, given how things have worked out, nobody but the Hyperion management will ever know whether there would have been a press release if not for this discussion. I certainly have my doubts, given that it would have taken all of 30 seconds a few days back to avoid this unpleasantess, and that it was instead allowed to happen.

If you feel you should apologise, either for the way you behaved, or on behalf of Hyperion for the mess they have created over the last few days, that would be admirable. If, however, you are waiting for me to apologise for pointing out the mess that was created, or for treating you as a human being rather than a demigod --- nope, sorry.

I get your disappointment with the SCSI driver. But don't get too disappointed.
I read quite a while back that they had some problem with the driver but where
working on it. AFAIK the CSPPC SCSI works. Shouldn't be too much difference
there?!?

I was wondering about that too. AFAIK both BlizzardPPC and CyberstormPPC are using the Symbios 770. The main difference that I know about is the SCSI-standard which they use. While BPPC offers up to 10mb/s (FAST SCSI), the CPPC can transfer up to 20MB/s (Fast Wide SCSI).

The scsi chip used in CSPPC and BlizzPPC is completely different. BTW, CSPPC can transfer up to 40MB/s.

If somebody wants to donate a full system with BlizzPPC&SCSI to an OS4 developer then the situation may change. But ATM classic hardware is dying and developers hardware dies too.

Ask Ralph Schmidt documentation about the BlizzPPC scsi interface/GREX1200/GREX4000, donate the required hardware to one of the OS4 developers and you will probably get support for that in OS4.

I attacked you because your original demand for clarification was nothing but another attempt to put a damper on a positive news item concerning AmigaOS 4.0. You do not have any interest in it, your only interest is to stir up trouble (as can very evidently be seen by the threads you actually post in, and what you post). I don't actually know why - I guess you partly blame Hyperion for the trouble you went through with Amithlon, or something in that direction.

So I don't think you have to try and play innocent, you aren't. You always pop up when there is a possibility to stir up some FUD, There is no need to even deny it, and if you are honest, you will admit that.

The only person to cross a line here was glittering, as I also told Wegster in a personal mail, and it was mainly him that I wanted an apology of, because he called me (or Bill, whoever he was referring to) "lap dog" and "old joker".

You, on the other hand, in my opinion, created or tried to amplify the supposed "mess" behind this, which in my opinion never existed. Your posting was merely aimed at creating uncertainty about MY statement, indirectly claiming I was either lying or trying some cover-up.

Not that it would matter, but it is just a guesswork from you. And the only purpose it again to stir up doubts. The press release was planned, I have a mail from the management I could show you from the Friday before the show where they told me that a press release would follow, however, nobody actually raised a fuss about it until YOU stepped in and tried to raise doubts.

In one thing only I agree. My reaction to your initial posting was uncalled for. I should not have said what I did, and ignored it completely. I took your statement not for what it said but for what I suspected (and still suspect) was the reasoning behind it (which I still think). I apologize.

However, I take offense at the word "demigod". I have never wanted nor asked to be treated as one. As a matter of fact, every time someone tried to credit me with AmigaOS 4.0 I was the first to point out that it was a team effort and not "my" work. As a matter of fact, when I got the AmiGBG Award 2005, I was thinking about refusing because I felt that I got too much credit for AmigaOS 4.0 (I only reconsidered when I was told that it wasn't about AmigaOS 4.0 but prior work as well).

I hate it when people try to put me on a pedestal, be it either as a demigod or as a villain. I am neither, and never tried to be one. I take offense at being called arrogant because I am not. I take offense at the "demigod" because I haven't ask for it, neither implicitly not explicitly. It might be that you think that I am arrogant, it's your right to think so, but it is my right to be offended at this.
