Yes. Sorry 'bout that, but no documentation means no support.

Rogue, any word on the native PPC driver for the X-Surf? You've had the 68K source code (C with core loops in assembly) for years...

I know, the classic version was on the backburner for a long time. One of our developers has the source code now and is working on porting it to PPC. It should be available a few weeks after the release of the Classic version.

Stupid question:
now with this classic version what kind of news are there in comparison with last update for A1? Are there an update for A1 users for aligning features of two versions?

No, is a good question Shinky

Thanks Hyperion

Seems like cnet.device is coded entirely in assembler, an OS4 PPC native version is not very likely to happen then i suppose?

The fact that 3rd party OS4 developers don't speak for Hyperion in the forums has nothing to do with Hyperion management asking one of them who attends a show to make an announcement for Hyperion.

However, the fact that *ROGUE* asked the third party developer to make an announcement for *HYPERION* is remarkable, given that *ROGUE* himself is nought but an individual third party contractor.

Listen to the audio. This request did *not* come from "Hyperion management". It came from Rogue. Rogue has in the past jumped up and down explaining how he does not speak for Hyperion, so either (a) there is a rather significant change, or (b) Hyperion announced absolutely zip so far.

Bill and Steven where officially asked by Hyperion to announce this.

So you are going on record here as saying that Bill and Steven spoke for Hyperion, the company? The company which is currently engaged in lawsuits with two different US companies over the ownership and distribution rights of OS4?Mind getting actual management to confirm that?

Just so we are 100% clear on this, you know.....

@umisef

I don't see what the big deal is, even if Rogue's status changed to being an employee of Hyperion, there wouldn't necessarily be an issue, if you're planning to bring up the subject of ExecSG ownership.

None of it really matters to us users, prospective users and spectators anyway.

Indeed great news. Good work Hyperion.

And now for MY - perhabs stupid - questions :

1.: Will it be possible to use an ATA133 Controller from i.e. Promise througt i.e. Mediator as the "standart" HD-controller?

2.: Will it be possible to have a Multi-boot between AOS 4 and AOS 3.x ? If Yes, is it covered in the manual ?

One thing that I Personally don't understand is, why You don't have created an "All In One" Version of AmigaOS 4 instead of Three seperate versions. Just MY opinion. Personally I have failed to see the logic in this.

And creating Three different versions of AmigaOS 4 also remind me of this M$ company who ........... are not so popular for it's ....... not so good working OS.

Please don't get me wrong. I DO thust Hyperion and Amiga Inc. in that AmigaOS 4 is as stable as they promise. And I also do thust that Hyperion and Amiga Inc. can come to an agreement about AmigaOS 4.

So keep up all your good work.

Did anybody else catch the date discrepency in the completion date of OS4 for the A1?

Wish I could get my CSMkIII back from dce, and it worked. Hope this doesn't turn out like the Amithlon mess and everything stays legal, because we all know that "piracy is what killed the Amiga".

Could you please try to stay on-topic for once! A discussion about Rogue's relation to Hyperion does NOT belong here.

what about PCMCIA network card support in OS4? maybe cnet.device OS4 native? or 68k version will work?

cnet.device should work, 3c589.device doesn't.

I don't get it either.

I've done work for 2 companies as contractor, I was never actually employed. But if one company asks me to represent them on a fair or something similar I do it. Where is the problem??

Bernie should not polute this thread with non-sense, if he has something to say he should make his own thread in my opinion.

Back on topic: I don't posses any classic PPC hardware, but I think about buying a copy just to show my support.

OK, please read the bloody news item. It says "Hyperion made the announcement".

Hyperion did not make any announcement. There is nothing on Hyperion's website. There is nothing on Acube's website. There is nothing on the OS4 website.

In other words, I am pointing out that "the topic" of this thread is utterly incorrect.

Now, you might think that's nit-picking, but pulling stunts like "Oh, no, Rogue is not part of Hyperion, we are awfully sorry if you were confused about that" has been done before, as we all know. In court, no less.

And with OS4-for-classic's announcement status by Hyperion being as well defined as Schroedinger's cat's health, I simply want to open the box and make the wave collapse, one way or the other. And while I admire the naivety of people who think such silly games (last seen when "The Final Update" was released) are of no consequence to mere users, I would like to advise people that naive to peruse the recent court records regarding the fallout from *that* gamble.

Now, if OS4 for PPC actually *is* announced by Hyperion (as the topic claims in error), *then* a challenge has been thrown in AI's face. If not, then nothing whatsoever has changed. Right now, Hyperion is allowing itself the luxury of both being able to say, come November 30th, either "Oh, we announced this weeks in advance. Surely you should have complained earlier!" or "What? Plans for selling OS4 for classics? By Hyperion? Surely you jest! There was some sort of misunderstanding between our management and a third party contractor, who then mistakenly asked another third party contractor to make a statement which in no way represented the plans or position of Hyperion LLC" --- depending on whether AI does react or not.

While I have to admit it's clever, I don't have to like it. So I am just asking for Hyperion management to make up their mind NOW (and go on record NOW) as to whether OS4 for classic on November 30th is announced or not. A simple "yes" or "no" from HyperionMP, together with a "and I am XXXXX, holding position YYYY at Hyperion" would be sufficient. Yet, just like 10 months ago, nobody will commit to anything.

Does anyone *really* think repeating the fiasco is a good idea? I mean, come on!

So, to sum it up --- please correct the topic, or deal with the fact that "the topic" is not actually accurate representing reality as we know it.

Excuse me, but how remarkably silly is that?

If you want to show support, then send Hyperion an anonymous donation. Or Olaf. Or something. Why would you spend money on something which is no use to you, but which cost Hyperion money to produce, and for which Hyperion might very well end up paying license fees to people you probably do *not* want to support?

It won't work unless the controller doesn't require DMA to work in PIO modes (in theory it shouldn't require it). Anyway you'll still need to load the OS4 kernel from somewhere. For A1200 it may be interesting.

Of course that it's possible. Just use different partitions and choose the partition you want to boot from the early boot menu.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't only the A1200 versions of the Mediator that used the gfx memory for DMA hack ? If so Mediator A4/3000's with DMA shoulnd't be a problem.

Mediator4000 works just like the A1200 version, it has a bigger 512MB memory window and also uses gfx memory for DMA. They didn't implement real DMA as it's very difficult. Just count the number of real DMA cards... Fastlane, another scsi I can't remember (... and the new USB2 card "Deneb" developed by E3B.
